The top seed went out yesterday too, so the highest-ranked player left in Nik's quarter is Kovalets WR 932, i.e. ranked just 12 places above her. smile.gif

However, Kovalets is WR19 in juniors aged just 16. Trounced Daneika and lost narrowly in 3 to Tara earlier in the year. Also, she is 3 metres tall...apparently.

That's a big win - not just because Kovalets is a top 20 junior as jb288 pointed out but because this is only Nik's second ITF singles semi ever - the other was at Hilton Head in June 2008.

Well deserved victory for Nik who has had some unkind draws in recent weeks. Sounds like Kovalets lacks a little maturity oncourt as according to Nik on twitter, the Ukrainian served under arm at one point.

Anyway, that's great for Nik.  Pleased to see her doing well after that omission from the Commonwealth Games team.
