Congratulations on crushing these Americans 14.5 to 13.5...
....for there is nothing more crushing than giving seemingly defeated opponents an inkling that they might escape only to put the final dagger to the heart. It's the hope that kills you !
Seriously, good to see the fight from the Americans today, especially young Ricky Fowler coming back from 4 down after 12 and 3 down after 15 to halve with Edoardo Molinari ( Edoardo can still console himself that it was by that half we won ! ). But ultimately well done Graeme ( G Mac ) McDowell for holding his nerve at the end as it got rather too tight for comfort.
Good to to see two of their guys, Messrs Woods ( 9 under par for 15 holes ) and Mickelson showing what they can do. They could do wth that a bit more, especailly from Mickelson.
Anyway, great that those spectators who had endured so much and managed to attend today got so much for their money.
The sooner though that agreement can be made to get the Ryder Cup back to a more sensible place in the calendar the better. It is very good to hear that moves are apparently being made to reach agreement to bring forward the 2014 Gleneagles Ryder Cup, which had been provisionally scheduled for the second week in October.

Monty was a great captain but we would have won easier if he had selected Casey as one of his wildcards. Had a feeling the US would make it tough this time and they certainly did. Timing of event due to the Fedex cup on US tour becoming such a big deal, but the Ryder Cup event should be at latest the last week in September IMO.
Loved the European tank top uniform, sort of thing my grandad used to wear ...
Seriously though, golf, what's it all about? I admit that all sport is pretty weird if you look at it in the cold light of day (so the point of kicking the ball into the net is what, exactly?) but golf is way out on the beyond side of nuts.
Those stupid clothes. Those fat and unfit players. That poncy way they hold the ball up to acknowledge the applause when they hole out.
And why exactly are we supporting Europe? England or the UK I can see. But why do we team up with our ancient and everlasting enemies against our friends?

Monty is generally one of my most unfavourite sportsmen, and as a Scot I am usually supportive of Scots. It's my personal feelings and I don't really want to argue this one with anyone, but it's mainly the attitude displayed so often in the past when things haven't been going well for him.
But he does show up well in a Ryder Cup context, having been a pretty inspirational player and yes I thought seemed to lead very well, and seemed to interject on course occasionally and well ( unlike Seve in Valderrama who memorably seemed to want to play everyone's shots for them - please may your health inprove Seve )
I agree that Casey, no 7 ranked player on the planet, notably good matchplayer and having a pretty good season to me should have definitely been a pick. Edoardo Molinari's late real push for a place ( though he was in slight contention before ), with a readymade partner already in the team, made things difficult, and I probably agreed picking him ( he was unlucky not to score more, particulaly being pegged back today with these last 3 hole birdies by Fowler ). I agree Donald getting picked. Frankly the WC that I would not have picked was Harrington who has been right out of form and didn't ultmately do a huge amount to disprove those thoughts ( though he's evidently got a future as a caddy the praise he was getting as greenreader whilst Fisher basically won one of that pair's matches )
But anyway we got there in the end

A great result, but I find a Ryder cup in the USA is a lot like an Azarenka vs Sharapova match - best followed without sound. I wish all those who spend all day yelling 'get in the hole' would.

...unless it's beating opponents who have been 10 - 4 up and 10 - 6 up overnight on their home ground and you've been generally totally written off.
