L32: Jamie Baker WR 269 (CH 211 in Nov 07) v Rik de Voest (RSA) WR 208 (CH 110 in Aug 06)
De Voest lost to Dino (Wardy) in 3 sets in Vancouver but then qualified for the USO and took Numpty Nalby to 5 sets in QR1. In the last 5 years, he is 1-4 v Brits, losing to Muzza, Goodall and Boggo as well as James and only managing to beat Eaton.

Eaton has a tough draw, probably Fruttero in 2nd round who is ranked well lower than what he used to be and he also beat Inglot in Vancouver :/
Well got that one wrong, Young took Fruttero in the 1st round and Eaton scraped Young. Good to come through a 3 set match and winning comfortable in the third. He could really do with the 3 points for qualifying as his ranking breakdown for singles is pathetic at the moment and hes really just living on his Glasgow win at the start of the year. I really want him to make MD here as 3/4 qualifiers have tough 1st rounds and he likes playing strong opponents.
Can't explain how pleased I am that Coxy is playing Challenger qualies. Given that he already has 3 points in the bag, a high quality hard court player like Ball is about as good a draw as I could have asked for.
Coming to the point of AO, the qualies cut can fluctuate immensely from year to year. It could be 400, or it could be 280. So hopefully instead of trying to gain cheap points at Futures, Cox will play only Challengers or Tour qualies for the next seven weeks, plus the two 15Ks in Czech Republic. There's no point in being there if you aren't good enough to win matches.
From the entry lists, Dan hopes to play just the 2 challengers in the States, then back for the 2 x 15k's in UK. There are of course more challengers after that and, this sort of mix to finish the year seems about right to me. He and Josh Milton in particular, have stepped things up nicely result wise since the summer, this seems like a sensible step up.
How he fares against the 6th seed will be quite telling.
Agree with most of what Salmon said, although with "just" 3 points for qualifying, arguably might have preferred a better chance of Dan picking up 7 more R1 points against what was still likely to be a decent opponent.
But anyway, yes be good to see him in better tournaments and hope he can perform well to show some ( including myself ) who have been maybe a bit wary about just how much he and Josh Milton have improved based on the UK 10K futures ( they undoubtably both have improved ), and to give Dan himself more confidence.
Anyway, hope he can give a good account of himself against Ball.
Chris is attempting to qualify for the doubles in partnership with the Springbok, Andrew Anderson. They are the q1s &, having beaten John Paul Fruttero & Cecil Mamiit in QR1, face Boris Nicola Bakalov & Roman Borvanov (BUL/USA - WC/q2) for a place in the first round of the main draw.

Seems very strange that Chris is teaming with such a lowly ranked player that he is having to qualify for the doubles here
