With 110 points coming off from Shrewsbury, Elena needed a decent draw here and seems to have got it - R1 v a player she beat 4 & 3 in Toyota last year and the bottom seed (8) Szavay the closest seed to her in the draw.

She'll need to reach the semis here to make a net gain on the week though and another concern is that she's been complaining on Twitter about not having been able to sleep well since she got there and having practice sessions disrupted by rain.

Solid start from Bally. She has points coming off this week, but ultimately the experience of playing tougher opponents in Seoul outweighs the loss of points... (hopefully).

Yes, decent draw but did the job.

Likely to get much tougher from now on, but let's not discount the possibility that she could win another couple of matches and gain points this week.

I read elsewhere that day 2 has been rained off.

The OOP for 21/9 has postponed across it and all those matches are rescheduled for the 22nd.
Bally won't play her R2 match until Thursday by the looks of it.

Match started - not sure how much I'll follow

Bally 1-2 on serve (Bally held to love) ( Szavay held to 30 & 15)
