R1: James Ward vs. Santiago Ventura (3) WR 125

Ventura had a good start to the season but lately he hasn't been great on the dirt. lost 3 of his last 4 clay matches, including his last one was in the first round to Eysseric in straights who James beat in straights, so anythings possible

Morgan's also in the doubles.  He's teamed up with the Russian, Evgeny Donskoy, & guess what?  They've drawn the Spanish top seeds, Daniel Muńoz de la Nava & Santiago Ventura (WR 216) in the first round! blehdisbelief

That's a real shame! disbelief  Presumably he'd have had to play our Filipino friend, Treat Conrad Huey, in the first round, if he'd qualified, then either James or the third seed, Santiago Ventura, in the second...

They had a good go, eventually losing by 7-6(3) 2-6 [13-15]! hmm

It appears that James won 6-1 7-5, according to Croatian teletext.

Just like my dear ole mama used to say. If in doubt, just check the Croatian teletext!

If it's true then nice one Wardy!

I had a feeling he would do it earlier, given both their form, but its one thing from being capapble to do it and actually doing it!

A qualififer next, so James has got to fancy his chances for the QF!

R16: James Ward vs. Carlos Gomez-Herrera(Q) WR 783

Herrera beat fellow qualifier Huey in the 1st round, 20 yo with 16 points, fully expect Wardy to rech the quarters here

Very good win for James  smile

That will take him up to GB no 3 above Jamie Baker in this coming Monday's rankings which was coming.

It's probably also coming, the way their points stand and the respective form of him and Boggo that he will probably be GB No 2 before too long.  In fact reach the final here and that will be on Monday !
