Qualifying starts early here:

QR1: (q5) Elena Baltacha WR 56 v Ayumi Morita (JPN) WR 89

H2H 0-1, 5&2 at Cincy 2009 when I assume Mortia was the higher-ranked player. The other seed in this section is Alizé Cornet.

QR1: Katie O'Brien WR 128 v (q7) Kimiko Date Krumm (JPN) WR 59

This is an evil section, with the winner to play Molik or Urszula Radwanska and Groth the other seed.

Katie is 2nd on Court 6 at about 16.30 BST with Elena following her on court not before 19.00 BST.

There is something about this North American summer hard court season which Bally really doesn't seem to like. I don't really understand why as looking at her game you would have thought she would probably get some of her best results on this surface. First 'rough' patch of the year for her, which is saying something as we are now in August!
