Week 31 - Challenger ($50,000+H) - Campos do Jordão, Brazil

L32: Jamie Baker WR 247 v (4) Josselin Ouanna (FRA) WR 133

Ouanna was WR 88 as recently as last October, reached the Recanati Challenger semis last week and is on a 9-0 Brit-bashing streak stretching back to 2006, when he lost 5-0 ret. to Mackin, a scoreline that suggests he was struggling with injury or illness from the start of the match.

So this is a very tough draw for Jamie (and not the kind of draw he was hoping for by going all the way to Brazil for Challengers, I'm sure) but it's worth noting that before Recanati, the Frenchman hadn't won back to back matches for 3 months ...

Tiebreak time in the 2nd - this time the source is the tournament's own twitter, which somehow spotted my tweet and has been prompted to stop concentrating exclusively on Zampieri v Evans! smile.gif

Jamie up 2-1 in the 3rd - anyone's guess who's serving, my guess would be Ouanna!

6-4 suggests Baker served first in 1st set...and second set...which means he is a break up!!
Hope I'm right!

Hmm,

6 - 4 first set Ouanna suggests more likely Jamie served first in 1st set, but 2 - 1 Jamie 3rd set more suggests Jamie serving first in 3rd set, and I think balance would be the second.

Bit I like other guess better  smile

"Baker x Ouanna 5/5 no 3º set"

(no means "en o", i.e. in the, so no need to worry about a disappearing set)

Come on Jamie, this would be a big win if you can get it.

It's Brit-basher bashing day today!  biggrin

Ouanna's 9-match BBS comes to an end:

"Baker d. Ouanna 4/6 7/6(5) 7/6(5) 1st round Campos do Jordao Challenger"

Come on!!!!

L32: Jamie Baker WR 249 beat (4) Josselin Ouanna (FRA) WR 136 by 4-6 7-6(5) 7-6(5)

L16: Jamie Baker WR 249 v Giovanni Lapentti (ECU) WR 266 or Alexandre Bonatto (BRA) WR 343

Jamie has won 6 of his last 7 matches against GEMs, but this win against a former top 100 player who had beaten Boggo, Bloomers, Goodall and Mackin in his streak has to be the best so far.

Great win for Jamie!!

Looks like he might play Giovanni Lapentti in the second round, who's a set up (or was, 45 minutes ago) over his opponent. I think the tournament Twitter says he's playing LL Tiago Lopes rather than the Brazilian Alexandre Bonatto; however, my grasp of Portuguese is, um, nonexistent.

Lapentti is WR 266 by the way, a winnable match for Baker if that's who he ends up playing.
