Week 31 - Challenger (€85,000) - Segovia, Spain (Hard)

QR1: (q6) Chris Eaton WR 513 v Michael Hui (USA) UNR

Unfortunately, Chris will probably have to get past Samuel Groth, probably the top Brit-basher at the moment, to get into the main draw and get any points.

37, but 27 of them came from his GBR F1 (Glasgow) win in January and he hasn't picked up any singles points since qualifying for Jo'burg in April. His total of 51 includes 14 points from last year, all of which are due off in the 4 weeks commencing 30 Aug.

Winner to play Groth or Battistone in the FQR.

FQR: (q6) Chris Eaton WR v (q2) Sam Groth (AUS) WR 483 (CH 220 Nov 09)

H2H 0-1, straight sets in Newport qualifying last year.

Chris ended Freddie Nielsen's 22-match Brit-bashing streak in 2008, can he end Groth's 15-match BBS in 2010?

this is the sort of match Chris would win...just as we write him off and say he'll never make it, he usually gets a win that makes us shift a little

Eaton/King-Turner (GBR/NZL) v (4) Marrero/Munoz-De La Nava (ESP/ESP)
Delgado/Marray (GBR/GBR) v (WC) Monedero/Munoz (ESP/ESP)

As I said in the Kitzbuhel thread, it seems Murray and Marray have split.

Delgado not playing with Zovko this week either after their recent success, the Croatian is the top seed this week in San Marino with Bracciali.

Regarding where Eaton has been recently I saw him hanging around with a few of the other guys in Chiswick, so not sure why he didn't enter unless he was carrying a slight injury.

Chris is the latest Brit to try to stunt the Groth ... 2-2 1st set - Chris has been out-aced so far (4-3) and has saved 1 bp.

Groth breaks and will serve for the set cry.gif

3-5*

Stats are Groth 8 aces / 0 DFs, Eaton 4 / 4.

Groth 65% 1st serves in, winning 87% and winning 63% on 2nd serve

Eaton 54% 1st serves in, winning 79% but winning just 33% on 2nd serve

So in other words, Groth has been well on top throughout.

A DF produces a BP, which Groth saves ... then had to go away for a bit and it looks like Chris did break in the end for *4-2 smile.gif but then got broken right back cry.gif

3-6 4-3* deuce

Another bp for Chris ... got it!

3-6 *5-3

Can he hold onto it this time?
