Commonwealth Games

3 singles players and 2 doubles pairs for each country. 32 singles draw, 16 doubles draw, with 26 singles direct acceptances and 13 doubles direct acceptances based on WTA rankings. Rankings of 2nd of August are used.

England
Anne K
Katie
Anna S
Sarah

Scotland
Bally

Other selections yet to be made known, but it seems Jocelyn Rae could qualify for Scotland.

Heather I guess will be competing for Guernsey.

Amanda Carreras for Gibraltar?

Nic Slater for Scotland.

Can anyone make a Commenwealth ranking list?

By the simple method of removing non-Commonwealth players from the current top (almost) 300, I get the following Commonwealth top 30 for singles:

5 5 Stosur, Samantha 30/03/84 AUS 4890 20
51 50 Wozniak, Aleksandra 07/09/87 CAN 1180 25
59 57 Baltacha, Elena 14/08/83 SCO 1084 24
70 69 Rodionova, Anastasia 12/05/82 AUS 969 30
77 76 Groth, Jarmila 26/04/87 AUS 889 19

89 86 Molik, Alicia 27/01/81 AUS 756 22
91 88 Scheepers, Chanelle 13/03/84 RSA 733 23
109 109 Ferguson, Sophie 19/03/86 AUS 620 33
114 114 Dokic, Jelena 12/04/83 AUS 601 17
121 125 Dubois, Stephanie 31/10/86 CAN 564 29

129 139 O'Brien, Katie 02/05/86 ENG 498 26
142 131 Mirza, Sania 15/11/86 IND 435 18
143 140 Fichman, Sharon 03/12/90 CAN 435 23
151 154 Keothavong, Anne 16/09/83 ENG 393 18
166 166 Tetreault, Valerie 21/01/88 CAN 340 19

167 165 El Tabakh, Heidi 25/09/86 CAN 329 20
174 192 Marino, Rebecca 16/12/90 CAN 322 25
179 179 Jones, Sacha 08/11/90 NZL 315 13
194 195 Adamczak, Monique 21/01/83 AUS 285 22
198 198 Peers, Sally 01/06/91 AUS 275 25

208 208 Cavaday, Naomi 24/04/89 ENG 258 25
211 209 Dellacqua, Casey 11/02/85 AUS 255 7
216 216 Rogowska, Olivia 07/06/91 AUS 244 30
220 235 Robson, Laura 21/01/94 ENG 232 16
224 238 Zhang, Ling 28/10/89 HKG 228 16

239 239 South, Melanie 03/05/86 ENG 214 24
241 224 Golds, Shannon 03/10/86 AUS 211 25
262 252 Watson, Heather 19/05/92 GGY 188 16
265 272 Smith, Anna 14/08/88 ENG 183 26
284 284 Broady, Naomi 28/02/90 ENG 165 18

E&OE (i.e. I did this very quickly and may have deleted a country I shouldn't have)

The above list includes:

12 Aussies
9 Brits
6 Canadians
1 each from RSA, NZL & HKG

Given the limit of three players per country (which hits the Aussies, Canadians and Brits, but doesn't hit our girls quite as much given that not all of the 9 Brits in the top 300 are English) and the fact that quite a few players are likely to choose not to forego opportunities to gain ranking points in order to play here, we could end up with only a dozen top 300 players taking part.

Edit: added in guesses at countries for the Brits

Any news on who has accepted from GB?

There are going to be some very very easy games here!

You could probably lose Dubois and Tetreault too. The Quebecoise are generally not interested in competing at the Commonwealths.

Do Hong Kong compete anymore? I'm probably wrong on that one, but I've got a thought in my head that China stopped it. I don't know where the thought has come from mind you.

Whybourn will compete for Wales I would imagine.

The China Open, a Premier Mandatory, will clash, and I kinda doubt the WTA will let say Stosur off a zero pointer for missing it, though whether she would anyway  hmm.gif

I imagine that will take care of Black and Stubbs too.

Anyway, be an intersting competition to find the Commonwealth Champions, excluding the really very good and some who no doubt won't be bothered.

You're right - I just checked and HK haven't competed in the CGs since 1994.

I thought Lisa was English and just trained in Wales?

When I looked a while ago, there weren't enough ranked players from commonwealth nations to fill the draw if you apply the 3 per country limit.

Maybe she could qualify under a residency rule.
