Weeks 25 & 26 - Wimbledon 2010: women's doubles

R1:  Naomi Broady & Katie O'Brien vs Andrea Hlavackova ( bleh ) & Lucie Hradecka (CZE/CZE)
R1:  Regina Kulikova & Anastasija Sevastova (RUS/LAT) vs Elena Baltacha & Olga Savchuk (UKR)
R1:  Julia Görges & Agnes Szavay (GER/HUN) vs Naomi Cavaday & Anna Smith
R1:  Jos Rae & Heather Watson vs Casey Dellacqua & Alicia Molik (AUS/AUS)
R1:  Sania Mirza & Caroline Wozniacki (IND/DEN) vs Anne Keothavong & Mel South
R1:  Sally Peers (AUS) & Laura Robson vs Kaia Kanepi & Shuai Zhang (EST/CHN)
R1:  Sarah Borwell & Raquel Kops-Jones vs (2) Nuria Llogostera & Maria José Martínez S (ESP/ESP)

I have less of a feel for the women's game than for the men's, so I'll confine myself to pointing that the girls, as with the boys, have avoided seeded opposition (with, again, one obvious exception) & leave the pre-match analysis to those in the know.  That said, can't see Naomi B & KOB getting past Hlavackova & Hradecka & Sally & Laura are going to have their hands full against Kanepi & Zhang, as are Sarah B & RKJ against the second seeds, but possible sporting chances for the other two pairs? please.gif

Indeed they are.  Not doing very well with this, am I? ashamed I blame it on the format adopted by the Grand Slam tournaments for the printable draws.   The pairings are so close together, I clearly skipped a line - or two ... furious

I guess it doesn't get much better for Sarah & Raquel, now MJMS has withdrawn they now play the 3rd seeds.... how'd the powers that be work that one out?

R1:  Sarah Borwell & Raquel Kops-Jones vs (3) Liezel Huber & Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA/USA)

Sorry Stircrazy, your list looked so perfect when you put it up.......  wink

Huber and Mattek-Sands are actually the no 5 seeds.

To be fair to these powers that be that is consistent with what they did after Nadal's withdrawal last year when they moved the men's no 5 seed, Del Potro, into his slot. They have moved the no 17 seed ( in this case newly created seed ) into the spot vacated by Huber and Mattek-Sands which I think is again consistent with last year's men's draw. I guess they aren't just making it up  wink.gif

It will just be to ensure that each side of the draw has 2 of the top 4 players / pairs available.

Still would have been nice if to hell with overall fairness they'ed just simply got the LL instead  smile

Last year we had two British teams reach the second round. Can we match/beat that this time round.

Bropos take the first set 7-6 (7-1). Anna/Naomi take the first set 6-4....

and hows this for dumb rules: they won't close the roof for bad light on Bropos' match because it wasn't originally scheduled for centre.
