The Queen Returns to Wimbledon

http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news/pressreleases/2010queen_17_05_2010.html

I don't know if anyone else had picked up on this news from the Wimbledon website, which broke about two weeks ago. Thursday 24th June, which is the Thursday of the first week of Wimbly fortnight, is the proposed date when the Queen will once again be in the Royal Box at Centre Court. The last time she was at Wimbledon was in 1977, according to that Wimbledon article.

Do you think they'll put Andy on Centre Court that day?!

I saw this on the news and they made reference to the fact that the last time she attended we had a British winner. Let's hope.

I certainly hope so! I think Andy would be promoted to the status of national hero if that happened. Triple significance you see. It would be not only the first slam won by a British man since "forever" (according to the press!), but it would also be Andy's first slam AND it would be his home slam as well - people would go nuts for that!

wink I was just thinking that. It's the exception to the rule. It would be amazing if Andy won this tourney as his first after his struggles, but I think it's too soon after them for that to happen... and on clay? Well that sure would be something if Andy's first slam was on clay. He'd also probably have to get past Rafa in the final, which would be a tall order - but we can but hope! It would be great if Andy surprised everyone and did it here in Roland Garros - and I have been musing that Andy, precisely because of his troubles, has been flying under the radar somewhat here, and with so many seeds going out today things are opening up. Fingers crossed! smilewinner.gif
