Didn't notice a thread for this. Jamie Baker has received a wild card and has a nice looking draw:
R32: Jamie Baker (WC) WR 262 v Qualifier
As there is nobody left in the QS draw inside the top 400 this is a great chance for Jamie to move closer to the top 250. If he advances the seed is Peter Polansky (8) CAN WR 192.
Great to see Baker get the wild card here. His draw couldn't have been much better, here's hoping he has a good week and I quiet week of participants from the mens side
I presume this is a late choice by Jamie since he has got in on a WC which his ranking wouldn't have needed if he was on the original entry list.
Anyway, good chance to pick up a few points. Would be well timed too from a Wimbledon WC point of view.
Jamie is currently ranked 262nd with 173 points with 250th place having 185 points.
However, he will move up to 178 points in tomorrows' rankings and if he could get quarter final points in Carson ( 15 points ), these less his 18th best ( 3 points ) would put him on 190 points and very likely into the top 250. Moving to 182 points for a first round win currently looks as if it wouldn't get him into the top 250.
If so, presumably he'd get bestowed an LTA recommendation for a Wimbledon Main Draw WC since they said they'ed based this on the 7th June rankings.
33-year-old Mamiit was once ranked as high as 72, but that was in the previous century (1999) and he hasn't ended a year in the top 400 since 2007. He took a set off a young Andy Murray in the Vancouver Challenger in 2005, but more recently Boggo thrashed him 0 & 2 in Las Vegas in 2007 and Colin Fleming beat him 6 & 3 in Tallahassee last year.
The match is on Centre Court at 18.00 BST so hopefully will be streamed.
