RE: Entries Week 40: Commonwealth Games

Do we think any of the nations will pull out? things aren't looking so good right now, latest headline is a pedestrian bridge has collapsed near the games site.

It does sound like a bit of a disaster waiting to happen:

There are always worries about the venues, but not usually worries as big as this a couple of weeks before!

Of course, all the players used to playing at Futures level (and there will be plenty of them at the CGs) will be used to this level of squalor! (or much worse)

I say that with great respect to those willing to put up with travelling to the outposts of the tennis world in pursuit of their dreams.

Yes, not good.   http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/commonwealth_games/delhi_2010/9025907.stm

Kinda expected some last minute stuff even though they had 7 years to prepare but .. disbelief.gif

Scotland and England have had team officials out early and managed to get their teams moved to relatively better blocks.  But hope it doesn't mean some smaller teams that haven't had folk out early and / or have less influence get left with really bad conditions.

Even, then I know the Scottish officials have been having to organise and join in work themselves to help get their new block cleaner and in better shape.

Yes, pity about Bally, but much more understandable in her case than some others.

"I suffer from a liver condition which is linked to my immune system and makes me susceptible to picking up infections. At the age of 27 and after many years of hard work, I am now playing the best tennis of my career and I cannot afford to jeopardise that by getting ill.

"I will be cheering on Team Scotland with all my heart, in particular my fellow tennis players Mhairi (Brown), Joss (Jocelyn Rae), Colin (Fleming) and Jamie (Murray). I am very, very sad that I won't get to play alongside them."

Bloomers has withdrawn no

mainly because he doesn't feel fit enough and concerns of health issues.
I think the memories of leaving Uzbekistan under gunfire also linger.
