Extremely impressive start - she won 6-1 6-4 against the 4th seed. Results are on the LTA site, but I don't have time now to put them up.

I would agree with that! I think she has beaten Chirea 1 & 4 according to TF. Not too shabby for her first hit in the big (ish) league!

Would love to see another talented junior start their ascent, though long way to go of course.

Great win for Eleanor. Younger than Laura was when she made her debut at senior level. Although still to test the water at u18 itf junior level. Be interesting to see how she gets on against Gabb who has a top 200 junior ranking I think.

Eleanor had to really dig deep today - her reward is a first round clash with Nottingham junior runner-up Ruth Seaborne. There's a big first round clash between Joss Rae and Tara Moore, with the winner playing Eleanor or Ruth

I was just looking at the main draw, and noticed in the corner "Player Representatives: Ruth Seaborne & Jennifer Ren". Given Jennifer seems to have withdrawn, I hope Ruth doesn't have too many disputes between players and tournament organisers to contend with!

Was hoping for a better draw for Mandy...though Dietrich has played very little this year so may be vulnerable (lost to Naomi B here last year 1 and 6 having beaten Martin Merchant). Jade beat her opponent at Mytillini last year.
