James Ward (GBR) WR 252 def. Rajeev Ram (USA)(1) WR 93 7-5, 6-2

Great win for Wardy! I know Ram's ranking is a little over-ranked but he is still 130-150 quality so it's a good win for James

That's Ward's 2nd win over a Top 100 opponent with his previous beating then ranked WR 87 Victor Crivoi in Eastbourne last year

Also he now has the No.1 seed's draw so it means he avoids all the top seeds to the final!

He will play the winner of Guillermo Alcaide (ESP) WR 220 or qualifier Ivan Endar (ECU) WR 468

Also 6 points in the bag :)

Not wanting to get too carried away with this victory, but who do you think Wardy will play in the final? wink

What a fab result to come back to - barring Boggo, our nos 2, 3 & 4 on both the men's and women's sides have been on fire at the start of this week, taking out 3 top 100 players between them, with another dishing out a double bagel!

It will be the Ecudorean qualifier, Iván Endara, who's just beaten the Spanish interloper by 6-2 6-7(3) 6-4.  Dunno whether that's a good or a bad thing...

James' day gets better WR 220 Guillermo Alcaide has just been knocked out by the Ecuadorian qualifier Ivan Endara in 3 sets!

Endara is ranked WR 468 in the world and is 22 years old. Endara hasn't done alot this year managed to come through Salinas qualifying (Challenger during Oz Slam) beating Duclos in 3 sets in R32 before crashing to Dabul 6-1, 6-2 and he has reached the final in the Guatamala F1.

James has got to be looking at reaching the QF here

Meanwhile with regards to Jamie B, Soeda and Reynolds have 1 set a piece with Soeda a break up in the 3rd

Hey,  GB Men's No 1 has just beaten a top 100 player as well.  And beating any top 100 player I'm not sure was something to be taken for granted at the moment !

True, as I said on the Rome thread, 4 top 100 scalps for Brits on the same day - amazing! smile.gif

The Ecuadorean qualifier Ivan Endara WR 468 has just upset Alcaide, so he will be Wardy's next opponent. His only experience of facing a Brit is a loss to Edward Seator and partner in the Costa Rica F1 doubles Final in 2008.
