Week 17 Futures - Italy F6 ($15k) - Vicenza - clay

Evo & Smethurst should be in the main draw here.

QR2: (q6) Alex Ward WR 604 v Thomas Kromann (DEN) WR 1129 or (wc) Nicola Remedi (ITA) UNR

Kromann was ranked 855 in June 2009 but has since fallen back, possibly because he has succumbed to a rare shrinking disease. ITF says his height is 0.00 m - that's even smaller then Evo, isn't it? wink His last match against a Brit was a loss to Josh Milton in 2008.

The other seed in this section is (q16) Wang Tak Khunn (FRA) WR 1069.

Indeed, I'm sure he's well positioned to move his world ranking forward.

I sense a few commentators trying not to make slips in the pronunciation... miss out the Tak and you're pretty much gonna get fired.

Good that he still has a chance to make something out of what has been a couple of pretty disappointing weeks.

Make that a very lucky loser. Both the number 1 & 2 qualifying seeds went out in the FQR too, but presumably didn't stay around long enough for the sign-in.

It's a Future, so there's a random draw among the fqr losers for LL places.

At first sight (looking at the rankings) a good draw until you find out why Stebe got the SE!

Doubles:

R1:  (3) Frederik Nielsen (DEN) & Dan Smethurst WR 649 defeated Francesco Borgo & Giuseppe Molon (ITA/ITA) UNR by 2 & 3 smile

R1:  Dan Evans & Alex Ward WR 1669 vs Juan Sebastián Cabal & Jorge Montero (COL/CHI) UNR

QF:  (3) Frederik Nielsen (DEN) & Dan Smethurst WR 649 vs Riccardo Bellotti & Matteo Marfia (ITA/ITA) UNR

Dan & Alex will play the Italian pair, Nicola Remedi & "Stoppers" (WR 2060), if they can but get through their first round match.  The Italians, however, disposed of the second seeds, Eitzinger & Matsukevitch (AUT/RUS - WR 586) by 2 & 2 in the first round, so will be no pushovers!
