Week 16- Challenger- Athens, Greece-€85K+H

Boggo is up this week for playing in Athens and has been rewarded with a nightmare of a draw.

He plays 2nd seed and World Number 49 Phillip Petzschner in the 1st round.

Petzschner has been in good form reaching the last 16 of Monte Carlo knocking out Melzer and Garcia Lopez before falling to Andy's conqueror Kohlschreiber.

Not expecting alot here but could guess that Petzschner might be tired from his Monte Carlo efforts or he might not adjust well from playing in the slow clay of Monte Carlo to a hard court (hopefully fast!)

Ive seen Petzschner once, he actually looked to come into the net quite a bit.
Tended to only slice his backhand, so maybe Boggo could play on that.
Has a very good serve and forehand i think.

But has Boggo managed to even get to Greece?

I get the horrible feeling that if he isn't there already (which I'm sure he isn't), he might not bother now!

Then again, he's more than capable of beating Petzschner if he plays at his best and the German is slightly off.

If they has made it there we should have some doubles interest

R1: Delgado/ Muller (GBR/LUX) v (4) Ratiwatana/Ratiwatana (THA)
R1: (3) Murray/Marray v Mahut/Zovko (FRA?CRO)

Ohh bad draw for the 2 M's, that pair won Johannesburg convincingly after their 1st round last week.

Would be a very solid win if they took them.

Surely they cant have escaped Joburg if Naomi, Katie & Bally are all still stranded?

Jamie reached Athens yesterday morning (after a 14 hour journey). Also, according to Twitter the tournament has been delayed by a day due to the travel chaos.

I'm not sure but I think it is probably possible to fly into Greece, particularly coming from the south like South Africa.

Certainly the Iberian peninsula, Southern Italy and Greece were being mentioned as OK a day or two ago.

Edit :  Spain indeed must still be generally OK, since I hear of folk that have flown into Spain, and Madrid airport is being mentioned as a hub airport in getting all those poor stranded Brits on their way back home.

Jamie went to Athens via Dubai (5hr lay-over); not stated but we presume Jonny travelled with him.

The OOP for Athens for Tuesday has no Brits in action in either Singles or Doubles.

The Jays beat Mahut/Zovko a month ago in the Semi's at the Jersey Challenger 7'6(6), 6'3.

Looking at the forecast, with a new ash cloud, wouldn't give him much chance of getting there

Yes, I'm afraid next to no chance.

Some limited airspace being opened, particularly further north eg,. Scottish airports opening for limited flights.  But any flights from Scotland or England I can't see going through the heart of Europe.
