Slabba is a main draw DA here. Burnham Arlidge was also on the qualifying list (and it was his priority 1) but doesn't seem to have turned up - he can't have got into the main draw because the top seed in qualifying was a lot higher up on the Alt list.

Smythers got double bagelled but Priddle's result was even more shocking.

Slabba & a Pole by the name of Mateusz Szmigiel were the third seeds (WR 1029) in the doubles, but unfortunately lost by 2-6 6-1 [1-10] in the first round yesterday to the lower ranked (1550) Chilean pair, Hans Podlipnik & Ricardo Urzua.
L16: Alex Slabinsky WR 697 beat (7) Marcin Gawron (POL) WR 526 by 2-6 6-2 6-3
QF: Alex Slabinsky WR 697 v Marcel Zimmermann (GER) WR 581
Zimmermann got a w/o against no. 4 seed Ionita, which should be a better sign for Slabba than if the German had actually caused an upset. The other seeds in the top half both went out in R1, so to say the draw has opened up here (with nobody in the top 500 left in Alex's half) would be an understatement!

Now with the way the draw has opened a real opportunity to gather quite a lot of points and make a significant rise up the rankings. For instance 10 points for reaching the final would haul him up about 80 places. I really do hope he can take advantage.
The usual thing (unless you're Thornley at the moment, it seems!), draw opens up, Brit freezes ... (possibly a bit harsh in this case, it went to 3 sets)
