The women's matches were pretty different as they had no umpires or line judges while the mens matches right next to them each had an umpire and a line judge. there were plenty enough line judges watching upstairs, and one would even walk them onto court and do the coin toss before leaving to go back upstairs. Not sure if its because its only a 10K while the men's was a 15K or it was just the first round.
Since its up to the players to operate the scoreboard its hard to know who's who, especially since the person who's losing often doesn't bother to change the score so it takes 4 games before its changed.
Saw quite a lot of Steph Cornish and she was in total control and could have won a lot easier. Despite being pretty small she was still dictating all the rallies and even when Bamburac was on top she was able to manouvere herself into the domiant position. Vickers wasn't quite as impressive but was still a class above her opponent. They should have a tight match tomorrow but I think Steph might just edge it.
Saw some of Holly Richards and she is probably overweight for just a 'normal' person, let alone an international athlete. Alpay never troubled her but I don't see how Richards can win any long 3 setter and how much better her movement would be if she was in better shape. This is a different league to Willis who has previously been accused of being on the rather large side, but he is just a big guy, not necessarily overweight. All things considered she did pretty well but would surely be able to achieve more if she was a bit lighter.
I think Ruutel will beat Hope Johnson tomorrow and Ejdesgaard (who seemed like an honourary Brit) should win too. Hopefully Steph will come through but beyond that I didn't see enough or know who I was watching to have any furthur insight.

I went to the main draw for the last two years and the women certainly had a referee, umpires and line judges.
Can't believe that Kyria Dunford has been given a wild card here. Presumably it's because she's the LTA #1 U16. Her senior ranking certainly isn't much to shout about (219 last I checked). Delighted though! Hope she gets a point. She's the sister of a friend of a friend of the son of one of my colleagues. Practically blood!
