Looks like good opening draws for all three players.

We ought not forget that Liga is a top 60 dubs player. That said, she's played a fair few singles over the past couple of years and done nothing (lost to Borwell easily in 08).
1st round Quals win at Hammond ! Sun 28th Feb 10 - 19:49
Naomi dug deep in the 1st round of the Qualifiers at Hammond,Louisiana against an inspired Shelby Rogers of USA. The match went to 3 hours 30 minutes partly due to an injury scare timeout for Naomi. The eventual score was 7-6,6-7,6-4 !Hope Naomi's okay!!
Looking at her WTA pages, Rogers turned 17 in October, has only four senior 10K tournaments showing in her activity, the last a semi final appearance on clay in December. I've no idea what her junior record is like.
Would obviously have expected a much easier ride for Naomi, so hopefully it is also a question of Rogers having really moved on recently like many young players sometimes suddenly do and that she was indeed "inspired".
Hopefully Naomi is indeed OK after such a long match and some injury concern.
You don't want to be playing 3.5 hours but then again it would have been worse if she had lost. Hopefully she was distracted by the fact she was 20 today and not entirely focused on the tennis.
That's two really excellent wins, expected them to win but not so easily
In particular Georgie's opponent Boulytcheva seems to have had very limited activity recently but in the early part of last year, reached a 25K QF and L16, decisively beating WRs 182, 210 and 264 on the way.

Just checked the weather picture for the local area. Heavy rain and high winds meant that play was suspended before play could be completed on Monday. Play to begin tomorrow at 10 a.m local time when Georgie's match should be completed. Weather still not great dry but still windy with unseasonably cool temperatures barely above 50 F forecast all day. Should be ideal conditions for our British tennis players. No further singles play scheduled but all our girls should be in doubles action.
Georgie did manage to complete the win but there is no official score as yet. The qualifiers have now been placed in the draw with some interesting matchups.
Heather plays Vaidisova (needs no introduction) Mel v Xu ( Chinese qualifier who is ranked inside the top 400 but who shouldn't pose Mel with enough problems) Naomi v Johansson (former top100 player beat Mel at Wimbledon poor of late but did take 5 games off Venus last week) Georgie v Doi ( talented young Japanese player who is ranked just outside the top 200 but who is not in good form and hasn't played since the Aussie open)
