Anniversary of a great week for Evo.  But he also has to find better form in the next few weeks than he has been showing recently if after the Jersey points come off he is not going to drop down to GB No 6 at best and potentially well outside the top 300  hmm.gif

Had so hoped that those 75 points would be a catalyst to much more and certainly to more than the 96 points in total that have been gathered in the following 10 months.

its annoying when they move the weeks around.

slim challengers pickings this week, unless they want to get their feet dirty. and this is potentially where i think Wardy will have a big advantage. there are 4 small back to back clay Italian challengers, but a great chance to pick up points.

Jersey is still the same week - it's just there is no update that week because of the 2 week Masters event...same as last year.

So Evo will have already succesfully defended his points by this week!!

its really dissapointing looking back, i remember clearly the day the 18 year old easily dissmissed his opponent in straights in the jersey final, its not what we would of hoped, but i do not believe his ranking is inflated, he is constantly beating players in the 200-300 region, its the 100-200 players you really have to beat in challengers consistently to gain big points, and well, he isnt consistent, but i would fancy evo against any 200-300 ranked player to get the win

I am afraid Evo is not constantly beating players in the 200 to 300 region, he loses significantly more than he wins.

When winning that Jersey Challenger he beat one player in that region and actually two in the 100 to 200 region.

Since then, he has only beaten 3 in the 200 - 300  region, 2 in the 100 - 200 region and 1 inside the top 100. So six in total inside the top 300 and I don't see any particular 100 to 200 vs 200 to 300 problem.  I just see a general problem in not beating enough top 300 players.

The six players he has beaten in total in the top 300 in the last 10 months are ( from his ATP website activity info ) :

07/09 :  Lexington CH  :   WR 133 Brendan Evans ( USA )  4-6  6-1  6-4
07/09 :  Lexington CH  :   WR 208 Kyu Tae Im  ( KOR )  6-2  6-4
10/09 :  Sacramento CH  :  WR 83 Wayne Odesnik ( USA )  6-2  6-4
11/09 :  Jersey 2 CH  :  WR 267 Martin Fischer ( AUT )  6-3  6-3
11/09 :  Helsinki CH  :  WR 113 Bjorn Phau ( GER )  6-4  1-6  6-4
01/10 :  Doha ATP Q  :  WR 206 Ivan Sergeyev  ( UKR )  4-6  7-6 (4)  7-5

He has won 22 matches and lost 24, split :
Top 100 :  Won 1,  Lost 1
101 - 200 :  Won 2, Lost 9
201 - 300 :  Won 3, Lost 7
301 - 400 :  Won 3, Lost 1
Outside 400 :  Won 13, Lost 6

The 6 outside the top 400 looks worrying though to be fair it does include some who were there at the time but don't belong there ( the 6 are Vivanco-Guzman, Amritraj, Baghdatis, Przysiezny, Kontinen and Eysseric )

One can argue over Dan's abilities and his potential to go higher.  But to my mind if he falls significantly down the rankings it will be based on these results, which to me are not really results of someone particularly deserving of being ranked higher.

I'm not trying to have a go at Evo, but the above just took me to going looking at the facts since I already from glances before didn't think he had beaten many top 300 players in the last 10 months.  I think I've got it right, and am least sure that I haven't missed anything to significantly alter things.

Really i don't think Evo should have beaten Alex in the Jersey semi either, Boggo was being made to do additional sprint training as part of his AEGON contract that week and was too knackered to see the job through frankly, Alex was a set and a break up if you remember.

A few of the guys head off for the States to warm up for the Challangers in Baton Rouge and Talahassee (Wardy will be in those as well)

I sincerely hope that after Jersey, Anna, Mel and Georgie head off to Japan & Korea for the string of 25/50ks there - they could all pick up some big points. Would also allow them to miss the vast bulk of the clay season... The way things are going, 10 girls being top 250 by the year end is achievable IMO.

Hopefully Katie will play Monzon, Tourhout and Johannesburg and pick up plenty of wins to regain her confidence (after Nigel Sears helpfully bashed it in Portugal...).

Considering we have just five top 250 players just now, 10 by the year end would be some step up.

I do see what you mean on an indivual basis, jb, and i am presuming the five currently outside that you are most thinking off are Georgie, Naomi B, Laura, Anna and Heather.

Would be some Jackpot if they all came off.  I'd settle for eight overall, but maybe that's just why I ever end up with a minor prize smile

At the start of the year I would have had Jade Curtis pushing for top 250 but not much has been happening for her this year although I believe she has had some injury problems.

Early withdrawal from US tournament for Laura. Starting to get a little bit concerned about the severity of her wrist injury. Having read up about wrist injuries for tennis players my concerns are only raised further. I also find it very strange that given Laura's profile this injury hasn't been reported about in more detail. Apart from a small paragraph in the Daily Mail I don't know of any other report about it. It is if her management company have told the media they don't want any reports about it due to the serious nature of the injury. To add to my concerns I noticed that she has changed her profile on her twitter from I play tennis to just Hi, I'm laura. Probably worrying about nothing but at the bare minimum this time out will hold up her progress this year.
