Not the greatest of draws, especially when you consider that the winner of Katie's match is likely to play (1) Sharapova in R2 and Elena is in that quarter as well!

Between May and September last year she only won one match. She also only made it past the second round of one event all year.

The reason why Bethanie struggled last year may be in part the hip injury which kept her out from October 2008 to March 2009, along with the problem of having to defend points after her first big year on the Tour. She did however manage a win over Alize Cornet in the Fed Cup last week, so Katie may find, just like Granville who has waltzed through to the semis in Midland , an opponent rediscovering her touch.
