I'm a bit worried about Jade, she's withdrawn from the American tournies and no WC here so must be injured...shame. As for the 4th WC, I'd far rather it went to a youngster than EWS, who as I've mentioned previously only managed 1 win over a higher-ranked player last season which at her stage of career is really not good enough.

Three extremely impressive results today!

Really sad for Mandy, really hope this retirement isn't something serious. Well done to Michaela, Claire and Nicola for really impressive wins, and a decent fight from Daneika aswell. Have to say I thought Nicola had just got a few lucky results but these last couple of weeks suggest otherwise - good stuff.

Some bizarre scorelines here. I hope they are evidence of improved levels of play and not their opponent having an off day. I saw Michaela play briefly at Sunderland and she quietly impressed me that day. Will be interesting to see how her match with Jade pans out.
As for the Claire Ricketts scoreline well I have no words for that.
Whereas Nicola probably capable of such a victory.

She was also playing at Sunderland but I must admit I probably only watched her play one point. So can't give you anything more. Her results though do indicate some potential.

These scorelines suggest that yesterdays surprise performances were more to do with their opponents having an off day unfortunately.

The singles draw is also out:

Cav plays Schiechtl (303) emminently winnable.
Emily plays Kosinska (273)
Joc plays Stanciute (242) tough draw.
Heather plays Barbat (qualifier 717) looks a decent draw on paper but considering Heather's lack of matches and Barbat ease in getting through qualification could prove tricky.
Tara plays Vrljic (322) decent draw
Jade plays Hlavackova (158) nightmare draw.
Anna plays Kucova (134) even tougher Kucova qualified for Aussie open.

Briefly in the doubles Anna and Cav have a second round matchup with Heather and Tara.

Good for Tara - strong win against top 500. But then, opponent ranking never did matter much with Tara.

Nasty draws for Anna and Jade.

Yes, it's been a pretty encouraging start to the year for Tara. Hopefully she can really start stringing some results together.
