Week 4 - Futures F3 ($10K) - Tamarac, FL, USA - clay

Another huge qualifying draw here. Smethurst, Phillips and Cox are DAs once again. You would have thought the Wardinator must have a special exempt place here, but no, he seems to be being forced to qualify again, which implies that he had to play two matches in different locations today, since qualifying started today! no

As for the other two matches, there isn't a Brit Sean Smith on the drawsheet - Dubuque played an American Ryan Smith though... confuse

And, more importantly, Alex Ward has disappeared from the draw, replaced by an alternate. Seeing as I have nowhere near the level of understanding of Futures qualifying draw entry regulations as some of you lot wink, does this mean he's had to pull out, or could he have been granted a late SE?

Incidentally, there's a wildcard called James Flynn in the draw, whose nationality is listed as "BIZ". Any ideas?!

Oh come on, your one of us, admit it. wink.gif

Most likely he has a SE, don't see why he shouldn't have one. Although he may have withdrawn after not wanting to travel between the two.

As for BIZ I have not idea, I did think Bosnia but I think that is BIH.

Haha, "One-of-us! One-of-us!" hmm

Good luck to all the guys anyway.

(I'm going with Belize, it's my best guess...)

Hopefully Alex has got an SE then - I've checked the ATP rulebook and I can't see any reason why he wouldn't have got one. The rules do assume qualifying draws are made on Friday with qualifying starting on Saturday, so maybe that was causing some confusion and they had to get it clarified before confirming his SE.

As for the Sean Smith GBR turning into Ryan Smith USA mystery, I picked up the Brits in the draw by doing a search for GBR on the page and it definitely stopped on that slot in the draw. I double checked it as well because I was surprised to see an unknown Brit getting a QWC in Florida and even I can't mis-read Ryan as Sean LOL. Hopefully it just means there was an error on the original drawsheet that got  corrected when the R1 results went on.

QR2: (q3) Josh Milton WR 556 v Younes Rachidi (MAR) WR 1086
QR2: Matthew Short UNR v (q9) Alessandro Giannessi (ITA) WR 766
QR2: (q7) Neil Pauffley WR 711 v Ryan Young (USA) WR 1292

BIZ is indeed Belize.

Belize use BLZ as well, that's why I got confused there. Bloody Belizians... if that's a word. Actually I blame the UN. Probably their fault.

KIDDING.

To have one player missing in action could be seen as an accident, but three's a bit worrying! confuse
