Broady starts with a win ! Thu 26th Nov 09 - 0:19 Naomi won her potentially tricky comeback match 6-1,7-6 at high altitude in Puebla Mexico this afternoon against the left hander Maria-Fernanda Alves of Brazil currently ranked 270 in the world. Tomorrow she will play Leonie Mekel of Holland. Naomi said she felt strong with no reaction to her hamstring.
That's really weird. I'm not disputing the accuracy of the news, since it came straight from the horse's mouth, as it were, but the "live" scoreboard on the site says Alves won by 3 & 5! It has Mekel winning in three. Obviously, any scores posted there will need to be taken with a small pinch of salt from now on... Anyway, well done Naomi!
I think I'm right in saying a final or title here would give Naomi a new CH at around 35x or 32x respectively - which would be remarkable given the last few months she's had! It will be interesting to see whether she plays the two 10ks she has lined up if she recovers that CH though - I imagine she will, but with the points lost during injury covered she might choose to return home for further training.
A remarkable first tournament back giving Naomi her first 25K semi. Cohen was a top 5 junior, and is progressing steadily rather than spectacularly. Her only match with a 'Brit' this year ended in a straight sets defeat to Jo Konta.
Yeah from what I have heard about Cohen is that she is a solid player, as a junior she was a bit of a retriever, but she might have developed a more aggressive game since then.
