Week 44 - Challenger ($50,000) - Charlottesville, Virginia - Hard

Jamie B has decided that 1 weeks rest was enough and returns to action here.

Jamie is top seed in quali so you would hope for 3 more points.

QR1: (1) Jamie Baker WR 346 v Jamere Jenkins WR 1482 (USA)

Jenkins is a danger as he reached the final of the orange Bowl last year and has been a top 20 junior

The very, very bad news:

QR1: (q1) Jamie Baker WR 346 lost to Jarmere Jenkins (USA) WR 1482 by 7-6(4) 1-6 6-3 bleh

The surprising but good news (or maybe not so surprising - he was a star of the Virginia Tech tennis team until this summer, after all!) is that Dominic Inglot has got a WC into the main draw here:

L32: (WC) Dominic Inglot WR 1141 v Ilja Bozoljac (CRO) WR 185

He's going to have his work cut out to get anything out of that one, but good luck to him! smile

University of Virginia team . . . there's an article about it here. They seem to be one of the rather dominant university tennis programmes . . .

i guess 1 week wasn't quite enough. looks like the 2nd set showed the difference in class but maybe Jamie didn't have enough in the tank to keep it up throughout.

Jamie actually didn't play for 2 weeks ( Port Pirie was Week 41 ) , but I still thought that he might have given it one more week, given the travelling back to GB and then to USA and all the matches he'd been playing.

Anyway, a little disappointing, but hopefully he'll get some results in the next couple of weeks

According to MTF Bozoljac lost 46 62 61

Which means Dominic won. Which is an amazing result.
