Week 43 - Futures F36 (10K) - St. Cugat, Spain

Another Spanish week, this time with fewer GB juniors but some stronger names added. It's also a 64 qualifying field rather than 128.

QR1 :  (q10) Andrew Bettles WR 1631  vs  Fabian Spaar  (SUI)  UNR
QR1 :  (q12) Jack Carpenter  WR 1727  vs  (WC) Carlos Gonzalez-Tarriro (ESP )  UNR
QR1 :  George Morgan UNR  vs  (WC) Manuel Estrago Soler (ESP)  UNR
QR1 :  (q11)  Richard Gabb  WR 1684  vs  Gabrielle Dutto (ITA)  UNR
QR1 :  (q7)  Ashley Hewitt  WR 1429  vs  Lewis Burton  UNR
QR1 :  Nikki Roenn  UNR  vs  Oriel Roca Batalla  ( ESP )  UNR
QR1 :  Tom Farquharson UNR  vs  (q13) Oliver Golding WR 1727

Ashley, Lewis, Nikki, Tom and Oliver are ALL in Ashley's 1/8th of the draw !!  i.e. 5 of the 8 names in that part after one qualifying place, and Richard is actually the name immediately above Ashley in the draw.

They clearly couldn't have the other 3 seeded GB players in the same part, though don't know how George escaped  wink.gif

I think they really should try spinning these balls about a bit better or whatever they did here  hmm.gif

Morgan Phillips (if he gets out of Croatia in time - he still hasn't played R1 there) and Dan Smethurst (if he has recovered from whatever made him have to pull out of his first match in Croatia) are down as DAs for this event.

The Wardinator is 6th Alt and reading rule C6 at http://www.itftennis.com/shared/medialibrary/pdf/original/IO_38972_original.PDF, it appears that he might be eligible for a SE place even though he has only reached R2 in Dubrovnik so far, but I'm not certain about that because this is a 10K and Dubrovnik is a 15K and this rule seems to suggest that going deep into a 15K can't get you into a SE into a 10K, crazy as that sounds.

Morgan is my pick to do well here, but Golding must be on form to do that to Farquharson

If Carpenter wins, he has a potentially tricky FQR against no.2 seed Torroni (765) though.

If Bettles wins he's likely to play the no.1 seed Calderon (639).

Hewitt would play Golding if they won their 2QR.

The other two's potential FQR draw are...

Morgan - [4] Govaerts (925)

Gabb - [6] Dorfler (1320)

Good luck to them all!
