When he first came back I was very encouraged by how quickly he seemed to get back into a good stride.
I do really think that he has got quite a lot more to give as a as singles player, and all this doubles concentration now appears to be really effecting his singles play.
But there are probably limits on how high he would have been able to go, so with the Flemski combination now going strong, he may have to come to accept more results like this if and when he continues to play singles.
Shame to see Flembo lose and it does look as if he isn't going to get much higher with his singles ranking than he currently is, but given he's inside the top 100 in doubles now, that's going to be by far his main focus and I imagine the singles will just become a bonus.
i don't want him to forget about singles because if we have an injury during a DC tie we'll have to expect Flembo to play
Obviously Fleming should still try and qualify for events, but I don't think he's likely to have a singles career of much more success than he currently has.
Boggo though has not got the best of draws here.... he'll have to beat another top 100 player in round one after drawing 2nd seed Frederico Gil, whose currently at 77.
I wonder if boggo will attempt to qualify for the ATP tournament in Lyons the week after Orleans? It would be a failry easy trip by train. Is his ranking good enough though?
As for beating top 100 players, he is going to have to start doing it regularly at some point if he doesn't want to be strongly associated with the term " under-achiever". Gil is undoubtedly a good player, but Alex has played against much, much better
i think boggo is going to try and request as late a start as possible to try and make sure he recovers from Kolding. its a tough one though, but hopefully he should be feeling good going into it.
edit: yes i think alex will try for wither Lyon of Vienna (probably Lyon) although if he has another big week here that may be shelved.
