Brits in world top 100s - singles and doubles

Fair comment Oakland, and while it is great to see any GB top 100 player, I think it's fair to say that it is singles that is rather more significant for most people.

The thread was really just started by it being noticed that the total number looked to be at record levels. And in the last few years I've just kept an update of the total number, split by category, and name checked these entering and leaving the top 100s without there normally being any new record.

Hoping the new title meets with approval.

Must have been some time though since there were 7 men in the top 100 doubles?

I have only regularly updated since 2014, taking breaks at points before, but men's doubles was in the past by far the biggest number and we are getting back to these numbers.

I see that it was 7 in 2013 ( looks as if not above 6 since then until now ) and 8 in 2012 back in the times of such as Fleming, Hutchins, Marray and Delgado.

At least we can waffle about doubles given that it is clearly mentioned in the thread title

Yes, even if doubles is seen as the less serious stream in the sport - and requiring lesser skills/ fitness levels - we do seem to do comparatively better at doubles, even if at the same time we feature less in the business end top 50 of doubles too. Of course, most would say there is a correlation, our players ARE less good, that's why they're playing (and doing comparatively better) at doubles. It would be good therefore to see more of these 7 players moving up into the top 40 and beyond, seeing there certainly are not the same group of male tennis players that would seem to have a real chance of breaking into the top 150 and beyond as we have with the women right now.

Spot on thanks for changing it.

Heather has dropped 2 places to 101, Katie B hangs in at WR 100 ( down 5 ). Neither has any more points due off this year. Though Katie is finished for the year so won't add either.

An 80K R1 win for Heather is enough to take her back up 3 places to WR 98. Katie remains WR 100. Anna Smith is also now doubles WR 100 after dropping one place ( she has nothing further to defend this year and hopefully will be fit to begin the new year ).

Due to other falls Jo's doubles ranking is up 3 places to WR 100 giving us 16 top 100ers in all, higher than at any time in 2018 and just 1 off the thread record of 17.

Heather though will drop out of the singles top 100 next week ...

On Monday Heather inevitably dropped out of the singles top 100 ( 93 to 108 ) with her Hobart SF points from last year dropping off. Also other moves dropped Jo back out of the doubles top 100 ( 100 to 102 ).

Anna didn't drop any doubles points but did drop 3 places to WR 101 ( Anna, Harriet and Jo are now ranked 101, 104 & 105 ). All 7 of our men's doubles top 100ers are in the top 55. Just 2 top 100ers in each of the other 3 categories.
