Record Top 100?

With 4 men in the top 100 (Wow!) apart from Andy, there not much to defend either over the next few weeks. Kyle has 70pts at the French, Bedene 45 at Wimbledon but not a lot else.

Congrats to Naomi, whose WTA Premier doubles SF in partnership with Heather moved her up from WR 108 to WR 91

We now have 16 top 100ers, the highest I see recorded in this thread, and although not always recorded ( particularly mid 2013 to 2014 ), I think the highest in that time. Naomi is counting twice, but counting twice for a player in both singles and doubles top 100 is consistent with how I've recorded throughout.

Though Jossanna played a very good R1 match at Wimbledon their 10 points this year replace their 130 points for reaching R2 last year, and their ranking has dropped from 97= to 116=

Jossanna's 110 ( net 109 increase ) points from last week's SF take them back into the top 100. Back up to 98=

I thought that we might make a recent times high of 17 with Jo certainly into the doubles top 100 ( she is up from WR 109 to WR 89 ). But Jossanna ( even though their points are unchanged ) have slipped from WR=98 to WR=102.

Record top 10 thread anybody?

Already Andy and Jamie, with high hopes that Jo may shortly be joining them...

Greg and Tim were certainly simultaneously top 10, but I can't think of a third from that era, unless Andy joined them towards the end.

Before that, some combination of Wade, Barker, Durie?, Lloyd?

With Heather and Anna's respective R1 doubles wins this will almost certainly take us to a thread record 17 in the top 100. If Anna had won in partnership with Joss it would be 18, but let's not be too greedy for now.

Given this thread started in 2009 with 9 in the top 100 and questions as to how long ago it had been since we had had as many as 9, then 17 is some progress and who knows how long since we 've had that many. From Steven's early comments difficult to really establish.

I know that most folk would put much more score by doubles so it is great that we have 7 singles players in that number, another big improvement.

At the top end in British tennis, at least relative to our past, things are nae bad

I thought this concept sounded familiar....I started a top 10 thread on 23rd June albeit I had since forgotten about it! smile

As to whether there has ever been a combination which matches 3 Brits in the world top 10 singles at the same time (not the subject matter of that thread) my guess is not since 1970 when Ann Jones, Virginia Wade and Roger Taylor were probably all top 10. I think :)

If we are including doubles possibly 4 including Winnie Shaw; just googled her and hadn't realised she died so young cry

We have indeed increased to a ( at least thread ) high of 17 with doubles additions of Heather WR 87 ( up from 112 ) and Anna WR 98 ( up from 102 ).

Jo drops out of the doubles top 100 ( WR 89 to WR 102 with her Vancouver 100K title points coming off. Then too lowly ranked to be in Cincinnati this was the last time she played ITF and she also won the singles. She was in the following US Open to qualify and reach the last 16 and has continued to do OK

Jossanna's WTA International runner up result propels them back into the top 100 ( Anna 103 to 84 and Joss 106 to 86 ) so overall back to the at least recent times 'record' of 17.

17 at 19.09.16 ( 4 MS, 6 MD, 3 WS, 4 WD )

Jo at WR 102 for doubles is very close though actually the only other player within the top 160. So there is short term scope really for just one more top 100er.

We have just 5 from WR 101 to 200, including just Tara in singles.

Jo : WR 102 doubles
Emily : WR 165 doubles
Tara : WR 170 singles
Tara : WR 176 doubles
Brydan : WR 182 doubles

So great to have 17 top 100ers, slightly strange distribution.

WR 1 - 100 : 17 ( 4 MS, 6 MD, 3 WS, 4 WD )
WR 101 - 200 : 5 ( 0 MS, 1 MD, 1 WS, 3 WD )
WR 201 - 300 : 13 ( 4 MS, 6 MD, 2 WS, 1 WD )

Aljaz has dropped out of the top 100 ( WR 88 to WR 101 ) as his 70 points ( qualifying and reaching R2 ) from last year's Paris Masters drop off.

With other points movements Aljaz sneaks back up one place to WR 100.
