The Surbiton Challenger 2008 thread - currently at 28799. It attracted a lot of interest from MTFers that week.

Thanks Steven. I must admit I can't remember the last time a thread had 87 pages on it.

Draper interview from today: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/8556421.stm

It's good to see that Draper and JL aren't trying to use Evo as a scapegoat, at least.

Perhaps if Boggo or Bloomers retire this year we could consider for DC Captain?

A video clip of an interview with Gerry Williams a real blast from the past. I remember when he was the no1 tennis pundit. He suggests a roll for David Lloyd.

Not such a ridiculous suggestion. Following Lisnard's withdrawal, the "non playing" captain of Monaco was listed as 4th man! I think it might be a mistake but if your captain's young enough...

i have been offline for afew days with computer problems but borrowed a laptop to look in. I did predict we would loose. evans should not have been beaten by a player ranked 500 plus in the world. Ok the guy might have been inspired but come off it evans has been rated as the next big thing in british tennis. however I still cannot see why Boggo was not picked! did Lloyd also expect Ward to win against the lithuanian number 1 I certinaly did not! Ward is ok but remember only ranked about 250 he would struggle to get into wimbledon on a Wc! Select all Scottish team ie Murray/Murray/baker/Fleming let us see how we get on

If you ask me, Evans is overhyped. He ain't the next big thing in British tennis.

I wish Boggo had been picked, and if only Baker had been fit... However I disagree with your all-Scottish team since it looks like you would be pairing Jamie Murray with Colin Fleming. The elder of the Muzza Bros has really taken a dive in form over the past couple of years, and also he and Flembo do not partner as a regular pairing and I think it's important we play an experienced pairing (i.e. Colin with Ken Skupski) and not just throw random people together and expect them to win. No matter what I might think personally about playing Andy, I doubt he will be played on the team whilst we're in this division, and some people argue with a point that maybe Andy ought to leave well enough alone to give the other guys a chance to take the wins that they should be achieving and build up the confidence they need.

nobody suggested Evans was the next Murray, just that he had the potential to be the best DC support player capable of winning 5th rubbers...in time of course

Sorry, I didn't say anyone on here had said it, I think that fact that it's WIDELY known in the media that Dan is, as scottie says "rated as the next big thing in British tennis", and invited many many comparisons to Andy, qualifies.

Probably not at a great time seeing as the site's down at the moment but the results of this poll and the name of the site were just quoted on Sky Sports! Also when discussing Boggo's participation Fleming said he "doesn't think DC brings out the best in Bogdanovic"

Yes, I caught that comment by Fleming. I wonder what Count will make of it?

giggle.gif And of course you know by now that the plug was down to my doing, but I do agree with you Josh, how nice would it be if they browsed britishtennis.net in their spare time between studio bits? I think that would've been much nicer than the truth (which was - I emailed them to join in their debate about JL's replacement and I mentioned our discussion on here and quoted our poll). But I'm pleased it got read out and we got a plug! aww.gif
