Week 38 - ITF ($75K) - Shrewsbury, Hard

I thought I would open up a new topic as this is the biggest home tournament outside of the grass court season.
Firstly I have spotted that Laura has withdrawn today so I wonder whether she developed an injury during the semi last week. This means her current ranking will be very short lived.
There is going to be a very big turnout from our top girls with Bally Katie Mel Georgie and Cav scheduled to play.

Gutted that Laura is out, but she might need the mental break. I cant wait for the likes of Cav and Bally to be back in action either.

If the withdrawal is due to mental fatigue it would be interesting to know whether she plans to use her full allotment of 10 tournaments between her 15th and 16th birthdays. She also has one more wild card to use and I assume she's burnt all her junior exempts. Some people have speculated that she may get a qualifying wildcard for the Aussie open which would fill her allotment. I believe she has played 5 senior tournaments to date plus the Aussie makes 6 leaving a maximum of 4. Having had a quick look at the tournament calendar I see 2 obvious candidates in Barnstaple and Glasgow but no others. I also wonder whether the Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl are on her agenda.

It is a shame neither Robson or Watson are here, but it's not unexpected.

Jade Curtis and Joss Rae will surely get wild cards here.

I wonder whether Jade Windley will get a wild card after winning Cumberland ?

That would seem fair to me. I want to see Jade C climbing again - she showed so much potential and I was hoping she would be top 200 or at least verging by the time she was 20.

Tara is struggling better if she gains some confidence from a win in qualifying. I wonder whether she will get inspiration from her friend and fellow brit Heather winning the US juniors.

I think they are decent WC choices. Jade W and Anna S are in good form winning a few matches in a number of events.

Joss, the same and is a great talent could take a few scalps here. I shall be excited to see her play.

Jade is doing great in doubles but not quite there in singles yet

Thinking I might come up to see some of the early rounds (to see as many Brits as poss) - if I came for Mon and Tues would I be likely to catch the final qualies and first round (or half of it)?

The final round of qualifying will be played on Monday and the whole of the first round will be played Tuesday as the final is on a Saturday this year.

Qualifying draw is out - http://www.lta.org.uk/Global/Downloads/Results/2009/AEGON%20Pro%20Series/Shrewsbury%20SEP/Womens%20singles%20qualifying%20draw.pdf

The top seed in qualifying was lower in the entry list than Jade Curtis, so it is possible Curtis is in as a DA and her wild card has been re-assigned to Jade Windley, who is not in the qualifying draw.

I'll be going tomorrow, should be a good day with two rounds being played.
