Week 37 - Challenger (€106,500 +H) - PEKAO Szczecin Open, Poland (red clay)

Jonny M is back with Aucks this week.  They pop up as the third seeds in Poland & guess what?  They play a pair of Polish WCs, Marcin Gawron & Grzgorz Panfil, in the first round.  Would be nice to see them go deep in this valuable tournament, where the champions will collect 110 points & the beaten finalists 65... pray.gif

*  Hutch's partnership with Jean-Julien Rojer was obviously no more than a stop-gap:  the latter has teamed up with the Argy, Lucas Arnold Ker, & they're the top seeds

Hutch involved in Davis Cup this week SC, so wouldn't have been available to play here.wink

Hope Aucks and Jonny get a good run at this tournament, Aucks may need all the help he can get if he's finishing at the end of the season.evileye

Only one match, a singles, completed in Szczecin so far today & now the LS has gone blank! cry  It wouldn't surprise me if Poland's been affected by the band of rain that blighted south-eastern England last night before moving south & playing havoc with the schedule in Banja Luka & probably a good bit of the rest of continental Europe as well:  I heard at work earlier that the south of France was on red alert for possible flooding! cry  No sign of tomorrow's OoP, however, so maybe the organisers are still hoping for some more play today... pray.gif

Play did resume & Aucks & Jonny M won by 3 & 1! smile The schedule is now a joke, however:  two QF matches have been completed, in one of which the Ukrainians, Dolgopolov & Smirnov, did for the top seeds (Arnold Ker & JJR) by 4 & 3 (good result from A&M's perspective! biggrin ) & a third is under way, yet the match to determine the identity of A&M's QF opponents (Alberto Martín & Lamine Ouahab (ESP/ALG) or Peter Luczak & Yuri Schukin (AUS/KAZ) has still to be played! disbelief

Curious:  the Martín & Ouahab/Luczak & Schukin match should have been played today & there's no sign of result, but according to the OoP, Aucks & Jonny M are scheduled to play the latter pair in the first match on Court 1 tomorrow (14.00 BST start)! confuse Could've had a walkover, I suppose...

Walkover confirmed in the doubles draw sheet on the tournament site.  In the meantime, another seeded pair has crashed out:  James Cerretani & Lukas Rosol (USA/CZE) (4) thrashed 2 & 1 by the unseeded Poles, Tomasz Bednarek & Mateusz Kowalczyk!

And the boys wrap up the match by taking the second set tie-break 7-0! biggrin  The unseeded Ukrainians, Dolgolpolov & Smirnov, in the SF... pray.gif

Stepping down to Challenger level seems to be working for Jamie. Getting that winning feeling back. Hope he's soon back in the top 100.

Er, DD, Jamie? confuse Jamie Murray (as opposed to Jonny Marray!) has been playing in Banja Luka (Bosnia & Herzegovina) this week & unfortunately, he & the other Jamie went out at the quarter-final stage earlier today! cry
