Week 36 - Challenger (€85,000) - Genoa, Italy - Clay

The start of a new partnership for Hutchins, perhaps?

1R: (1) Ross Hutchins/Jean-Julien Rojer AHO vs Marco Chiudinelli SUI/Yuri Schukin KAZ

Rojer is ranked at 46 in the world

Huss only lost in the US Open mixed doubles yesterday so I guess didn't want to rush out. Plus Rojer has a permanent partnership with Brunstorm.

Good decision to drop down to challenger for a week while they are no ATP's on, particulary with the Davis Cup coming up he needs to get some confidence.

Ross toughed one out, 6-3, 3-6, 17-15.

Should do him a world of good to come through a close one like that, and they play the Croatian pairing of Ivan Dodig & Antonio Veic (CRO) next.

PS I think this is Genoa not Genova, which is a place in Switzerland?

1)  Delighted with that result. w00t.gif  Here's hoping it's just the start of a good run in Genoa. pray.gif

2)  Both are correct.  It's just a question of which language is used:  Genova is what the Italians call Genoawink The fact that the ATP site uses the native name for the location of this particular tournament instead of an Anglicised version (which is a sort of half-way house between the French Gênes & the Italian!), yet blithely refers to Seville (from the French) & not Sevilla smacks of double standards to me. disbelief Even the native call it "the Genoa Cup"! nod.gif

Genova (although actually spelt Jenova) was Sephiroth's 'mother' in Final Fantasy VII...

Showing my geekiness there. Ah who cares, BEST.GAME.EVER.

Blimey! A match and a half. Very close call, but at least Hutch and partner came through it. nod.gif

It does indeed seem very odd that the ATP and ITF sites are calling the Challengers Genova & Seville instead of Genoa & Seville or Genova & Sevilla, either of which would at least be consistent, especially when like wolf says, the website in Italian for the former is genoaopen.com!

I've got the impression in the past that the ATP (main tour & Challengers) tend to use the anglicised names and the ITF (when naming the locations for Futures) the local names and have wondered whether this is linked to the way the Spanish players' appellidos maternos (second surnames) tend to suddenly vanish soon after they get into the top 200.
