That's a shocker - was the Wardinator so busy laughing at his opponent's name that he couldn't play properly? De Lovinfosse is a 17-year-old ranked 83 in juniors who played his first ever senior ITF match in qualifying last week, losing to WR 1430 in three sets.
Smethurst plays tomorrow, with Vandenbulcke who beat him in the F1 Final likely to await in R2 if he wins.
L32: Dan Smethurst WR 708 v Marcel-Ioan Miron (ROU) WR 758
L16: (4) Marcus Willis WR 655 v (SE) Maxime Authom (BEL) WR 917

good win for Marcus, but for the third time in 3 weeks he runs into an in-form young Belgian - though unlike de Greef and Reuter, Autom hasn't been a top 20 junior

Not sure why a close match - 4 and 4 - to another very talented teen who's in good form is a bad loss. Marcus has the talent clearly as he's beating players ranked higher than him. He's just not developed the consistency yet - it is only his first full season at this level and he's up 300 places with another 3 months to defend that runner up slot from last year.
Just great to see Dan pulling out these 3-set wins. And he's beaten top seeds in past weeks, so I don't see why he can't do it again this week. Hope he can transfer this form to faster surfaces in the autumn.
There's something about Marcus that makes me believe that in a few years he'll be pulling out great wins more consistently. I can't say for certain what it is but I have faith. Right now, the odd loss here and there is not career-threatening and neither will it do him a mischief. I just hope he proves me right now ;) No pressure mate! XD
