Week 33 - Challenger (€42,500 +H) - Trani, Italy - red clay (again)!

The two Jamies keep on plugging away on the Italian dirt:  the 10th Trani Cup this time, the most valuable Challenger being played this week & for once (wonders will never cease!) one with live scores.  They've managed to avoid the top seeds (Bopanna & Moser (IND/GER)) this time, at least in the first round.  They'll play them in the QF instead - if they get past the Italian WCs, Thomas Fabbiano & Matteo Trevisan, in the first match on Court 2 today which kicks off at 15.00 BST. pray.gif

I predict a run at last for the Jamies, at least to the semi's (past the top seeds), hopefully further.

That statement was looking as though it might be the kiss of death, Shhh:  they were 1-5 down at one stage in the first set, but have somehow fought their way back to *5-5 30-0 (two service breaks apiece)! cry  Of course, the LS appeared to  chose that precise moment to go on strike! disbelief  But it now says that they have won 5-5 by retirement! smile

The next thing we need is for the Argie wild cards to knock out the no 1 seeds! On our knees again i think!!!

A small amount of luck for the two Js. 'Twould be even better if they could see off the top seeds in the next round. A mighty effort needed from the two. Not on tomorrow's OoP.

Whisper it very, very softly, but Shhh may very well know something we don't:  the two Js have just taken the first set off Bops & Moser 6-1! smile  Now, just hang in there for one more set, lads... Pretty please.gif !

They've only been & gone & done it - & in only 57 minutes! biggrin  They took the second set 6-4 to set up a semi-final encounter with either the third seeds, the odious Austrian, Daniel Köllerer, & Jaroslav Levinsky (CZE), or the Italian WCs, Stefano Ianni & Simone Vagnozzi, so probably the third seeds.  29 points in the bag! smile

Great win for them and hopefully things are finally starting to go right for them.

Would expect them to be able to follow it up with another win, but given how they've played lately, we can't expect too much.

In well-known footie parlance "I'm over the moon". At last a run of matches (2wink) for the new combo. clap.gif Hope they can make the final and JM gets a boost to his confidence from it. Will they stick together? Opponents will be known tomorrow.

There have been some rum goings-on in the bottom half of the draw in the last couple of days:  the second seeds, the "Rati Thais", had a walkover against Horna & Prpic to reach the QF.  They've just been dismissed 0 & 4 by Simon Greul & Sandro Motti (GER/ITA) & will face the conquerors of the fourth seeds (Allegro & Bracciali), the Spaniards, Marc López & Pere Riba, in the SF. disbelief  We shall find out within the next 2-3 hours whether the two Js will take on Köllerer & Levinsky (now the only surviving seeds!) or the Italian WCs in (I presume) tomorrow's other SF.

Stroll in the park for the two Js:  1 & 1 (+ at least 48 points)! biggrin Can't see them having it so easy against Greul & Motti in tomorrow's final, though... pray.gif

Perhaps not too surprising given the fact Koellerer had played his singles quarter final immediately beforehand.

A very strange and unfair piece of scheduling from the organisers, but worked out great for the Brits though.

Think they've got a good chance of claiming the title which would be the first for a long time for Murray.
