I hope Katie qualifies so she has been in the MD of all 4 slams. That must be a nice confidence boost, and their are more than enough points available at the US for Katie and Elena to break the big 100. Should be an exciting slam, just a terrible shame for Anne.

Not knowing the WTA rules, I was thinking it might be a similarity not a difference - you can play Wimbledon qualifying if you go out of Eastbourne (formerly Nottingham) by the end of Monday, can't you? ATP rule 7.06.B seems to cover it, though it only specificially mentions ATP tournaments in consecutive weeks, not slams where qualifying starts earlier.
I think USO Q starts later in the week than Wimbledon too, probably because they don't need to leave themselves as much leeway for days getting rained off.

Not sure how far they are out of making the US Open cut, but perhaps they entered Bronx on the off chance that they did make the US Open cut and so had an event to play that week.
If they've withdrawn though, it is irrelevant though.
