Keothavong out for the season

The LTA have confirmed Anne is out for the season after a scan reveals ligament and meniscus tear to left knee. Terrible news for her

Oh damn.

I wonder if that explains her recent losses.

No she injured her knee in a doubles match yesterday crashing into a fence - see the Stanford thread.

I don't think she could have played through that!!!

So gutted for Anne. I hope she does come back. I think she can become a consistant top 50 player.

Its time noe for Bally, Katie and Mel to step it up and break into the top 100.

............ She was injured trying to avoid a fence while chasing down a drop shot at the Bank of the West Classic.

"I will have to rehab for the rest of the season," said Keothavong.

"Of course I'm disappointed to be out for the rest of the season but I'll continue to work with my team and look forward to coming back next season." ...............

That sounds very nasty. Awful for her.

When she says she'll be back next season, I would very much doubt she means the start of it with an injury like that.

she needs to wait until after the Australian Open to get a protected ranking

Very disappointed for Anne. It must be so difficult to keep picking yourself up after injury, especially such a serious one. However, having done it once before she knows it does heal.

Very sad for Anne. As Paul says she will be eligible for a protected ranking in February, so in the unlikely event of Anne being fit before then I expect she will wait to claim this. Normally players out with long-term injuries take a similar length of time after regaining fitness before they return to their previous form (like Georgie last year). Hence the protected ranking will be very valuable to Anne when she returns to form, given she is likely to be well outside 100 by next summer. Fortunately she has been through this before, and will know what to expect.

Anne has confirmed that she is targeting a comeback next February, at the earliest, with protected ranking:
