In the wake of Dan Evans career best victory over Brendan Evans, i was wondering what are other Brits career best victories aswell as their best victory.
The difference between being career best and best, career best is highest ever ranked player beaten while best victory could be winning a final or where they played to a high standard of tennis.
I'll use an example
Andy Murray's career best victory was when he beat world no.1, almost unbeatable Roger Federer in the first round of a tournamet i've forgotten the name of a couple years ago
Whilst his best victory was probably beating Rafael Nadal in last year's US Open semi-final to reach his first slam final.
As its quite easy now to look at a players career history on the new atp site how about if each forum member provides their opinion for one player only (before Steven provides a whole list ) and then suggests the next player to research
I'll start off with Morgan Phillips as his stunning win on clay at Italy F14 back in May 2006 was the result that eventually brought me to this messageboard
Morgan was ranked 751 at the time and he beat Nick van der Meer (NED) in the final (who was ranked 507) 6-3 6-3. His best scalp in that tournament was his quarter final victim (the Australian Paul Baccanello) who was ranked 360
I think his best win in terms of ranking was beating Pablo Andujar (ESP) 1-6 6-4 6-0 in March 2007 who was ranked 206, again on clay.
If anyone thinks this idea is worth continuing can the next person post for Boggo (can someone beat the Count to it)
Good idea, this thread could run and run - it'll be a good place to start recording new career best wins too.

His best win (at ITF level anyway, in case the lawyers are watching!) would have to be the one against Derakhshani, not only because it broke his duck but because Derakhshani has a 5-17 career record whereas Betancourt-Riverol is 0-11.
Best performances against ranked players were probably taking 2 games off van der Merwe, now ranked 224, in Botswana in 2005 and a 5-7 set v Fattar, now ranked 615, in 2007.
Alex Ward
His breakthrough win was probably when he beat no. 3 seed Bautista-Agut, then ranked 485, in R2 in Balaguer last year (his R1 win having gained him his first ranking point), which set up his run to the Final there.
James Ward
Isn't Spadea the highest ranked player he's beaten (6-0 5-2 ret. in Sarasota when Spadea was ranked 105)? His best result has to be beating no. 4 seed Carsten Ball (WR 213 at the time) in the Final to win that tournament, though Wardy is now ranked higher than that himself of course.
Chris Eaton
Another easy one - highest ranked player beaten Pashanski (WR 114 at the time) in R1 at Wimby 2008, best performance was probably the win against Patience (WR 161 at the time) that got him there.

By best do you necessarily mean a win against the highest ranked player? Or against the best player he's beaten?
The difference between being career best and best, career best is highest ever ranked player beaten while best victory could be winning a final or where they played to a high standard of tennis. So in Boggo's case his career best victory was beating Lee whilst his best victory would be over Johansson in Nottingham
Maybe the terminology used is causing the problem....
Career best win = ranking best win... the highest ranked player than the player has beaten
Best victory = win when the player played the best tennis/most important in terms of his career/a result that changed the momentum of a career etc.
So say for Murray... his career best win would be his win over Federer in Cinci or Nadal in Rotterdam this year when ranked number one, but his best victory would be Nadal US Open or Djokovic in the Cinci final or even Gasquet at Wimbledon.
Bloomers best win (ranking wise) was to beat VladimirVoltchov (WR66) in straight sets at Surbiton in 2003. But his best match was probably the match against ArnoudClement (WR90) in Washington ATP 2005 which although losing he took a set and only lost 7-9 in the final set TB. The most exciting match must surely have been last years match at Queens against FernandoGonzalez (WR15), losing with a 1st set TB and remembering especially that one game that lasted around a quarter of an hour only losing serve once on the penultimate game. I think what I am trying to say is a 'best match' is not necessarily a won match.
edit: Of course you may have realised that I omitted Bloomers 1st round win at Wimbledon against CarlosBerlocq (WR85) as this was unfairly matched against an almost 100% clay court player. I was there and it was nowhere near as exciting as the others I mentioned not even as good as the matches against FelicianoLopez, LleytonHewitt or TommyHaas but on paper it should really be listed as one of the best!
