The Open

Just been a great throwback to years gone by seeing Watson strutting his stuff on the fairways of Turnberry.

He may be 59 and may not win but he is in such good shape. He still is driving the ball 330 yds...thats mind blowing.

My heart says Watson but I hope Westwood wins as he has played the best gold this week an he is a Brit !

Ahh, drat, I wanted Watson or Westwood to win.

After that last hole putt and then missing a chance at the first extra hole, all life seemed to begin to drain from Tom.  But what an absolutely immense performance this week.

It is wondeful to see his iron play from the fairway, that simple smooth quick classic swing that hardly seems to have altered a bit in 30 years.  I'm all for trying to better yourself, but sometimes it is worth sticking with a swing that produces results, Padraig Harrington and some others, should maybe note.

Re Lee, in many ways very unlucky because almost every error cost him and he had sooo many close putts.

But also some brain fade :  18th in 3rd round :  admits he abandoned a pretty successful middle of the green policy and his caddie's advice and went for pin, cost him a bogey.  16th in final round :  instead of playing shot to green on its merits, seemed to overcompensate for previously putting in burn to the right.  And on the face of it, worst of all, 18th in final round, if he did as seemed go all out to hole first putt whatever return putt he might have, when at that time 2 putts had a resaonable chance of getting him into a play-off ( and in fact would have ! ). He conjured a wondeful escape with his bunker shot that I thought kept him in it and then seemd to throw that all away.  Very sad.  I actually do in some ways so hope that that putt on the final green was actually just a bad putt rather than the all or nothing attempt that it looked like.

angry, hope you used your wallet to put some money on Cink.

Anyway, after a day on Saturday in Turnbery sun and wind and spending quite a bit of time up on exposed stands, after an afternoon on front of TV for final round, my face is a bit less of that strange red colour it became yesterday  smile

I already had pre tournament.Only problem is I was much more confident about another bet that lost the maximum possible(1 shot Ross Fisher,1 shot less would have done).

Going into the play off I could have taken a tiny profit or risked a decent sized loss for a decent win,and chose the latter.A lucky win will do me,although I felt sorry for Watson in particular.I hope they go back more quickly than 15 years next time, one of the best Open finishes of recent years.
