James Ward continues his tour of South America as he moves to Ecuador where he will be the 5th seed in what is a relatively weak draw with just 3 top 200 players and the cut falling at 443.
He has drawn Julio Cesar Campozano of Ecuador in round one, with either Mariano Zabaleta or a qualifier in round two, so as long as Ward has managed to sort out his serve, a decent shot of a quarter final here.
Following on the comments in the Lexington thread, Campozano is definately a player that I've never heard of!
He's 23, currently ranked 458 with a career high of 318 last year, and hasn't won back to back matches since April (having played several futures), where he qualified for a Mexican challenger, but beat two unranked players in the process of doing so (one of them was Oli Golding, who got 6 games off him). His best result this year is probably reaching round two of the Blumenau challenger, so isn't exactly in good form, but did have some decent results in some Venezulan futures at the end of 2008 (where there was barely a top 500 player playing)...
Safe to say that Ward should be embarrassed if he doesn't somehow manage to make the second round.
I agree with the last sentence, but Zabaleta could be dangerous in R2, couldn't he, even if it is 9 years since he ws ranked WR21?
I realise he had a dire year last year, but he reached the Santiago Challenger Final this year (from Wikipedia, ITF still slow for me) so he can't be as bad as his ranking suggests.
