Anne Keothavong and Elena Baltacha have picked up wildcards for the main draw whilst qualifying sees Emily Webley-Smith's return to action. Unfortunately three of the six Brits have drawn the top 3 seeds.

(1) MARTINEZ SANCHEZ, Maria Jose ESP v (WC) WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily GBR
(2) MAKAROVA, Ekaterina RUS v (WC) STOOP, Georgie GBR (WC) BROADY, Naomi GBR v O'BRIEN, Katie GBR
(3) DUSHEVINA, Vera RUS v (WC) RAE, Jocelyn GBR LEPCHENKO, Varvara USA v SOUTH, Melanie GBR
Hm, will be interesting to see if Naomi can beat Katie - you'd think probably yes at present on this surface. If Mel doesn't win this one, then she's never going to win anything, and who knows whether Joss can pull something out of the bag - missing out on a QWC will hopefully fire her up.
Darn it, you just beat me to it! Is it possible for someone to delete my duplicate topic?
Done - here is the additional information you provided (augmented)
Q1: Emily WEBLEY-SMITH vs Maria Jose MARTINEZ-SANCHEZ (ESP) 37 Q1: Georgie STOOP vs Ekaterina MAKAROVA (RUS) 43 Q1: Katie O'BRIEN vs Naomi BROADY Q1: Melanie SOUTH vs Varvara LEPCHENKO (USA) 100 Q1: Jocelyn RAE vs Vera DUSHEVINA (RUS) 53
Play starts at 10.30, which is quite early for grass. Courts 3,4,10 and 12 have lots of mens matches with British interest. The women are on Centre, 1 and 2 as follows:
Emily: 1st on Centre Georgie: 2nd on Centre Jos: 3rd on Centre Katie v Naomi - 2nd on 1 Mel - 3rd on 1
Not a great draw in terms of getting a qualifier out of the event at all, and I'd be surprised if we had one.
Mel may have the best chance but her section still looks tough and to win 3 matches in a row against top 100 players would be a big achievement.
Katie vs. Naomi is the pick of the first round matches, but not a great reward for the winner of that match at all.
Now the OOP... quite what the LTA have done with this I'm not too sure.
Why haven't they got Mel's match and Katie/Naomi on the centre court I don't know...but perhaps it's a better idea as it means their matches will be more watchable in terms of getting to other courts than if it was on centre.
No Cavaday. :( Wimbledon qualies, I guess. But isnt broady in the Qualis?
Yes, both Naomi's are in the Wimbledon qualies I guess it was a difficult decision who to give WCs to. Emily hasn't played for a few weeks so needs a match. Joss has missed 6 months, but played well in her comeback, so I imagine that they wanted to give her another crack at top opposition, given she wil not be in the Wimbledon qualies. Naomi C is arguably least in need of match practice against this level of opposition out of all those playing at Roehampton next week - and not playing here saves the potential dilemma of qualifying here and missing out on Wimbledon.
Mirza will surely be pulling out if shes still in the SFs of Birmingham? Could get a qualifier out of the 2nd or 3rd section. A lot depends on if Vaidisova shows up or if the barely recognisable version of her is there. Lets hope for the latter!
I want Katie to win the British clash. Hope we can get some upsets here, Martinez Sanchez is much better on grass than you would expect, so I dont see any chances there. Dushevina looks like a great chance of an upset, should Rae be able to bring her best game. Makarova was pushed to 7-5 7-6 by Bally and Anna Fitz took her to a TB too, but I cant see Georgie managing that if Im honest!
Fingers crossed for all the girls, and I hope for a good MD that can get Bally the top 100 win she needs!
