Congratulations to James Ward for winning player of the month for May. He apparently won the first Challenger title of his career and achieved several other good results.
Amanda Carerras missed out despite winning the first title of her career and then going on to win three more titles in the same month.
With the "apparently," Peter betrays the fact that he's very much a WTA expert here - Wardy's Challenger win was the first by a Brit on clay since Tim Henman in the mid-1990s, so it was quite special.
I imagine Amanda would have won it in a normal month though, so in that sense she was unlucky.

Amanda may have missed out on the LTA's player of the month award, but she's gone (you might say) one better and been named the ITF's player of the month
Well done Amanda, who is the first GB woman win this award since they started in early 2008.
The men's version of this award started in 2006 - Slabba won it in Dec 2007 and Jamie Baker won it in February 2008. Hopefully it will bring Amanda more good luck than it brought them!
