I'm not holding out much hope for any qualifiers here with the top 4 seeds being quite strong, but Cavaday and Borwell have the games on grass to cause an upset.

But with a point for winning each individual match in qualifying and only 7 non-Brits in the draw, and three of those getting byes, it could still be a profitable time.

Self-immolation on court might put your opponents off coming into the net to make volleys, but it sounds a bit drastic to me ...

Lmao, funny stuff.

Its actually an awful draw tbh, Naomi should qualify though, which is what I want. I wanted a good draw for Tara, which isnt the case. Why doesnt she play juniors? I dont get it really but good luck to her.

Im hoping for some upsets.

Naomi should surely get through here; Jade perhaps - she really should if she is on the up: I guess we'll find out whether the good results in Japan were because of easy draws or real progress. Would be a bit ridiculous if Elliott has got the WC ahead of Jade/Naomi - but I guess she did well on grass last year. I'm hoping one of the tournaments is going to let Amanda C have a chance to show what she can do on grass...

Today's results out: http://lta.org.uk/Global/Downloads/Results/2009/AEGON%20British%20Tennis%20Series/AEGON%20Trophy%20-%20Nottingham/Womens%20singles%20qualifying%20draw.pdf

Jade, Naomi and Tara all into final qualifying round easily. Sarah lost badly to Weideman who won Bournemouth; Natasha lost in three to the #1067...Jess Ren took Danilidou to 7-5 in the first but went down 6-0 - but then she had already played a close 3-setter. Boffa needed three sets to beat Nicola Mooney, so I think she should prove no trouble for Naomi. Will be interesting to see how Tara does with Danilidou, and Jade should be beating players like Grandin if she's going to make a step up this year.

Tara's wins yesterday mean that there will be 15 GB women in the top 500 at the end of RG for probably the first time in 8-9 years.
