Lmao, I hate her already. Maria is a slam winner, she can back up her shrieking no matter how horrific it is...but a kid producing that noise is just unreal.
Apparently Katie's in to play Govortsova, replacing Zvonereva!! Although Govortsova beat Anne recently (she's #69 atm), if Katie can win she'd probably face Amanmuradova, which would be about the best draw she could hope for. Let's see how she can do!

She's certainly down in the women's MD as playing Govortsova ( ), jb, but I can't see them in tomorrow's OoP.
Great, though Govortsova is on a 7-match Brit-bashing streak since getting thrashed by Anne in Opole in 2006. She beat Katie herself 2 & 3 in Tashkent in 2007 and Anne in three sets in Indian Wells.
Katie is the first Brit to get into the main draw at RG after playing qualifying for 21 years - Clare Wood was also a lucky loser in 1988.
Also, it is the first time for 17 years that we have had more than two women in the RG main draw - the last time was in 1992.

Yeah, she also reached R3 here last year, but who knows - perhaps the fact that she's not 'earned' this, and therefore the reduced pressure on her to achieve, will allow Katie to play more freely - but who knows how her head works! So long as she gives it her best shot, it's great experience.
Does anybody know of anyone else struggling with an injury? I was routing for Bally to get the LL as i think she could make more of an impression then Katie
According to Sam Smith Anne and Katie have been practising together on Philippe Chatrier this morning - presumably because Anne has been told she will be playing Safina on this court.
Looking at a website for one of the bookies they have odds of:
Although I understand Mel's training block focused on aspects for the long-term rather than for Roland Garros I think the draw is a relatively good one for her, as she should enjoy the pace MlDB offers more than being messed around by a clay-courter. If any of them pull off an upset then they will be the first British woman to win a round here since Clare Wood in 1994.
