It has been my expectation for several weeks that Jo won't play again until she is eligible for a special ranking (of 47) towards the end of February. So its no surprise she has not been seen around the NTC preparing for the AO.

That is the smart way to do things.

That is a real shame, not a surprise I guess for those who know best?

I hope that she gets the plaudits and praise she is due, she had a great career and one of the best ever from a British woman

If you'd told me in 2011-14 she'd make it to 3 grand slam semis and win a WTA Premier, I'd have bitten your hand off in a heartbeat. A very fine career in the end. I know she always talked about not playing into her 30s so I guess the injuries made her decision pretty easy

Congratulations on a fantastic career Jo; at her best - she was outstanding, and has beaten pretty much everyone out there. All the best for the next part of your life Jo!

Absolutely! And amazing to see universal support and affection on Twitter in response (at least all the messages I've read).

Despite the inevitability of this announcement, I still feel quite sad about her retirement. It's such a shame to have someone having to retire prematurely because of injury. But she's definitely made the most of her talent and had an excellent career and given so many of us a lot of pleasure.

Good luck Jo for the future.

Indeed.

All the best for the future for Jo. I reckon she will find plenty to continue to interest and motivate her.

I thought maybe she would have another Wimbledon in her and retire after that next year, but not to be.  A great career.

A wonderful career, a lovely person, and very good write-ups by all the knowledgeable people

Wish her a wonderful wedding, and a happy future.

Sad to read of Jo's retirement. I first watched Jo at Eastbourne in 2015 when she beat Zarina Dyas. That was the start of Jo's rise in tennis and my awareness of Jo's tennis. Glad to have watched  her live at Eastbourne , Bath, Copper Box and at Wimbledon 2019 when she beat Sloane Stephens. I wish her good luck in the future.

Beating  pretty much everyone out there includes  Jo giving Serena Williams the heaviest defeat of her career.

It's funny isnt it, we have had more debates about Jo and is she liked, why isn't she liked that much, is she our best player, why doesn't she get the respect. And I have been one of those who has often been quite critical of her in many respects, whilst liking her a lot at the same time, quite hypocritically I think. But the press and comments reaction that I have been reading all seems to be very positive and glowing about her, suggesting she was liked more than perhaps many people on here thought and will be missed a lot from the British game.
