Johanna Konta

Everyone will be living in Andy's (even Jamie because "he is just a doubles player") shadow. Like everyone was being told it's been x years since we had a singles slam champion (which almost always excl women's and doubles players)

Jo was fined over what she said in the Roland Garros press conference 2018. That.was because of what she came out with which wasn't really in response to a question. The Wimbledon press conference was a response to a jounalist who had been hounding  her at Eastbourne and wasn't a fineable comment. As far as friends on the circuit are concerned I remember reading a couple of years ago she was friendly with Madison Brengle. More recently this year she did a coffee zoom session  with Kristina Mladenovic. At least they were social distancing so they couldn't play cards!.

According to Wikipedia, Jo is seeded 3 for Ostrava, below Pliscova and Svitolina (have not been able to confirm this elsewhere).

I certainly have sympathy with Jo on some issues but I am getting a bit fed up with some of the BotB stuff.

As others such as CD have shared first hand experience of, tennis team competitions throughout the world are characterised by rowdy competitiveness rather than courtesy and politeness, and that's fine by me.

I am not sure what Jo expected but anyway if her main aim for the week was practice ( allegedly practicing elsewhere before supporting her team and wanting particular opponents rather than random drawn ones ) then maybe she would have been better having a practice week in a different environment.

I would go further than that Indi and say that this thread is becoming a bashing for the Murray family (at a minimum) as well as the media in general and other players.

The only modern players I'm really a fan of are Andy, Jamie and Dan to be frank. Rest interest  me, some more than others but the only 3 I'll go out of my way to watch are those 3. Sadly none of the womens players catch my tennis eye in any way that makes me a fan.

Yes, tennisforum don't yet have a thread but that appears to be the provisional position. The seedings will depend on the final entry and post French Open rankings.

Going back briefly to tennis results, I wonder if anybody has noticed that Jo is the only British woman to have won any matches on the main  WTA tour since the return of play in July. Heather was doing fine in January and February , winning Acapulco and not winning any matches since.

I would guess the timing of the event would have been very tricky for her, considering she had been planning to play Palermo (on clay) the following week. Add to that coinciding with her trial period with Hogstedt and rehabbing from her knee problem, it would all have been a bit manic. I would guess, all other things being equal, Jo would have otherwise wanted to show support for the event.

Yes, I think Heather and Harriet are entering RG but what is going down with Katie B?

Not sure what has happened to Katie B. apart from the fact that she doesn't seem to have entered  any tournaments that are still being played.

This is a general question and goes back over at least a decade but has anybody on the forum ever spoken to Johanna Konta? I appreciate that it would have been more likely in her ITF days and smaller events in the UK such as Sunderland, Shrewsbury, Barnstaple and Wrexham. I just wonder what the impression was..  I have never spoken to her but her osteopath did introduce himself to me at Bath. I'm not sure why as I'm nothing to do with tennis. He was very pleasant and had a young son.

The closest I've got to Jo was at the Copper Box when she was having a "private" moment with her mum just below us, quite early on before proceedings began. I was not quite close enough to hear what language she was using (!) the body language, though, showed a lot of affection.

Not sure exactly what you're looking for but as you probably know, there are literally thousands of photographs and videos of Jo on agency websites and social media, where the pictures speak for themselves. There are some very nice pictures of Jo with kids. I particularly like this one as it illustrates MY idea of team camaraderie, taken this year (2020) in Australia with her then coaches (Happy Days!) and doesn't involve bad language or "sledging".

(note the dictionary def of camaraderie is "a feeling of trust and friendship among a group of people who have known each other for a long time or gone through some kind of experience together " )

Don't know who CD is? but rowdy competitiveness is fine by me. I've been to both Davis and Fed/BJK Cup matches at Wimbledon and The Copper Box and the atmosphere was the best I've experienced watching live tennis but bad language and "sledging" is crossing a line for me, particularly during points.

I actually thoroughly enjoyed the BotB Mixed Team format and would like to see more of that sort of event woven into the ATP/WTA calendar. I would also liked to have seen more of Jo but appreciate how it was awkward for her on a lot of levels (eg scheduling, coaching, injury). She did though put in an enjoyable performance in the doubles with Cam and there seemed to be a good chemistry as well I thought?

MY case is very much specific to Jo and why she is so under appreciated in her home country. I would love for someone to come up with other GENUINE proven reasons and disprove MY reasoning. Some of it I know, is (brexit) xenophobia, general under appreciation of women's tennis in a male dominated sport and disgruntled gamblers but the nature of apparent misrepresentation in the media of Jo's personality, manipulation of events and outright bullying (Wimbledon) is disturbing.
