RE: Johanna Konta

Just to note that with performance in Acapulco, I think Jo's new minimum points haul of 1886 is will be the highest ever achieved by a British lady in the history of the WTA.
A bit misleading, because back in the Virginia/Sue/Jo Durie days, the system was completely different - under one iteration, Durie had 28 points and was top 15.
Still, it is the biggest number, under any system, including all the modern revisions, some of which have allowed theoretically easier accumulation of large points hauls at the 40-20 ranking range such as Johanna now resides.

If Mr Ross had anything to do with the editing out of any uncomfortable episodes, then it will be a mark in his favour, so far as I am concerned. As for the (sogennante) newspapers that were waiting to pick up any awkwardness from a thoughtful and confident athlete who is not accustomed to what sometimes passes for "banter" in the media, well, the less said the better. Thank you, IF, for the context. I find it profoundly depressing that proper newspapers are disappearing, and yet someone is presumably paid to write the stories you mentioned.

On a happier note - what a lovely milestone for Ms Konta to reach. May she continue to set new records for success.

If Jo plays Miami, and loses in her first match, she will have acquired 1,002 ranking points in 2016.

In 2015, she passed the 1k milestone at Wuhan, in her penultimate tournament of the year.

It's quite a remarkable upward trend, although you'd hope those two one pointers won't even come close to featuring in her final year end points tally. :P

Heading into IW last year Jo was ranked 151; 23 now in the next rankings (or 24 at worst): remarkable on that count too! :D

With Plisková defeating Kasatkina today, Jo will definitely be WR23 on Monday.

In Miami, as IW, Top 32 seeds get minimum 35 points for playing (R1 Bye, so R2 points)

From Miami last year, of those directly around her:

Bacsinszky, WR 20, +317 pts, is defending a zero point counter, so will be net + 35 pts
Petkovic, WR 21, + 92 pts, is defending 390 SF pts
Sloane, WR 22, + 87 pts, defending 215 QF pts
Johanna, WR 23, 2028 pts; will get automatic minimum 35 pts from Miami, which will replace her lowest counter of 18, for net + 17 pts
Keys, WR 24, - 23 pts, 2005 pts, defending 35 R64 pts (effectively net zero)
Wozniacki, WR 25, - 37 pts, defending 120 R16 pts
Empress Jankovic, WR 26, -53 pts, defending mandatory R1 10 pointer, so will be net + 25 pts

Short story: probably would need SF to crack top 20 from efforts in Miami

Historically Jo's schedule in April has been very interesting, but that's for another time.

I thought if you don't win a match and have a bye, you get the amount of points from the first round.

KP was mightily impressive today, further proof that Jo played a good match, to end up with more points won against an opponent, who is clearly coming back to last years top 10 form.

You are of course correct.
Fortunately, the short story is still true.

With Pennetta and Sharapova out of the equation, top 16 feels just around the corner for Jo now; fingers crossed :)

I'm a little confused by Jo's current ranking points on the WTA site. I am keeping a spreadsheet of results for Konta, Watson, Robson and Swan and the other three add up, but Jo's I have at 2213 but the WTA has her points at 2225. I have checked against her profile and it does seem to suggest that 2213 is actually the correct score, unless she has picked up 30 points at some point (replacing an 18) and it hasn't appeared on her profile yet. Anyone know what the correct points are?

The last result I have for Jo is Miami.

Our Master Steven provides the best link for these.

The GB Women - Player by Player will be the one to click I think

2225 is correct now, 2213 will be correct on Monday

Jo' s current ( 11/04 ) points are indeed as the WTA has them, 2225 points.

This week she has an ITF 25K RU 30 points dropping out and being replaced by her current highest non counter of 18. So loses a net 12 points and will be 2213 points this coming Monday, 18/04.

The stats' top 25 table shows this happening for this week, With Steven's 'player by player' he is showing 2213 points, purely because he's working ahead of the official rankings as he often is.

Oh, that's the reason why mine was wrong then. I had already taken the 30 points from Jackson off. Do the ITF 25k tournaments come off a week later as well as go on a week later then?

Yep, points come off on the anniversary of going on ( assuming there is a rankings update that week ) and so the Jackson 25K RU points, which in common with all 25Ks and 10Ks ) went on a week later, come off at the equivalent time a year later.
