Reading about Miss Williams on the BBC after she pulled out of her match at the Madrid open when trailing by a set...
The world number two - second seed in Madrid - said she was currently remodelling a house and said: "I don't know about anyone else but $75,000 is a lot of money to me.
"That's like my whole furniture bill, and some stairs, rugs."
I love my tennis and well done to the players that work hard and make a good, very good living from it.
But this sort of clap-trap does my head in. It just shows you how detached some players are from reality. $75k on furniture and rugs... and in the current climate?
The whole super-rich thing is bad enough but to be this stupid and flaunt it in the context she did...well lets just say I'll be shouting for the woman on the other side of the net from now on.
Her pulling out had nothing to do with the fact she was being beaten by a better player on the day and just couldn't take that then?
It's amazing that every time Serena loses she happens to be injured - I don't recall her ever giving an opponent some credit for actually beating her.
Drew, you won't be the only one cheering for Serena's opponents - I know a lot of people who already do, including me.
But then again, I'd love to be able to spend $75,000 on furniture, and she's got that amount of money to waste, then why shouldn't she be able to do that...
many sports stars live on their own worlds though, i remember Ashley Cole said he almost crashed his car when he heard Arsenal were only offering him £55K per week as opposed to the £60k he wanted. its a tough life sometimes.
