Week 19 Futures - Great Britain F7 ($10K) - Newcastle

Evo isn't in qualifying this week (we may yet find that he got a main draw WC, of course) but I'm sure lots of people here will be glad to see a certain MP in the qualifying draw ... all to be revealed in the next post in a few minutes.

If men's qualifying is this weak this week, goodness only knows how weak the women's qualifying will be ...

All unranked and/or GBR unless otherwise stated:

QR1: Thomas Knights v Oliver Golding
QR1: Tom Farquharson v Rogan Egerton
QR1: Mark Beckles v Gavin Davison
QR1: Matthew Pearce v Joachim Sternbach (FRA)
QR1: Darcy Crawford v David O'Leary
QR1: Francis Hazelwood v (WC) Tim Matthewson
QR1: Marc Westgate v Matthew Leahy
QR1: Dominic Sutton v Elliot Chang
QR1: Christopher Helliar v John Rambotas
QR1: Alexander Bull v Ben Lott

QR2: Knights or Golding v (q1) Duncan Mugabe (UGA) WR 907
QR2: Lewis Barnes v Peter Watson
QR2: (q2) Dan Smethurst WR 1055 v Farquharson or Egerton
QR2: Jamie Whiteford v Daniel Sidaway
QR2: (q3) Maniel Bains WR 1071 v Beckles or Davison
QR2: Liam Broady v Pearce or Sternbach
QR2: Crawford or O'Leary v (q4) Barry King (IRL) WR 1116
QR2: Ashwin Kuppusamy v Jack Carpenter
QR2: (q5) Nick Cavaday WR 1171 v Hazelwood or Matthewson
QR2: (q9) Neil Pauffley WR 1370 v Westgate or Leahy
QR2: (q6) Morgan Phillips WR 1268 v Sutton or Chang
QR2: (q10) Ben Pritchard WR 1423 v Joshua Gledden
QR2: Christopher Helliar or John Rambotas v (q7) Antoine Feret (FRA) WR 1322
QR2: (q12) Niall Angus WR 1900 v Daniel Johannes Smith (RSA)
QR2: (q8/WC) Andrew Fitzpatrick WR 1348 v Bull or Lott
QR2: (q11) James Marsalek WR 1549 v Chris Priddle

Fitzy's going to have to make sure his first opponent doesn't come out with a lott of bull during their match ... {where's the getmecoat icon when you need it? ashamed} Actually, with Marsalek and Priddle there, he's probably got the worst section, but he proved last week he can do it.

Possible main draw WCs:

(q1) Mugabe was 3rd Alt for the main draw behind Dr No (who probably got in as a DA in the end) but ahead of Meatball, who must surely have one of the WCs.

Apart from Meatball and Evo, who may also have got a WC as a 'reward' for his rankingand for bothering to go through qualifying last week if he wanted to play here, the only other ranked Brit on the Alt list who hasn't turned up in the Q draw is Kyle Brassington.

Great result for Golding. Watch Mugabe last week and thought he had potential. Ben beat him in 3 in the end. Great chance for either Golding or Barnes to make the MD.

5 Defo for the MD. I think Bains will make it also.

Grant on AM.com says that:

"Main draw wild cards to Marcus Willis, Richard Gabb, Asley Hewitt and Ben Davis"

greatunclebulgaria saw Cavaday beat Pauffley in FQR:

"Newcastle futures watched a qualifying match between Nick Cavaday (1172) v Neil Pauffley (1373)
Cavaday won 7-5 6-3

Hard fought match, real slugfest at times with the net playing third man interspersed with some neat touches loved some of Neils drop shots interspersed with line painting"

Not the worst draw in the world, and we should see plenty of Brits make the second round here, and hopefully the likes of Morgan Phillips, Willis, Cox and Slabba (given his performance this year) can cause slight upsets and beat their foreign opposition.

Well done to Fitzy for qualifying again and hopefully he can get another point here, although Milton will be a tough draw.
